Cars is one of the few American animated films made by people who love classic Disney in the 21st century. It's one thing to play "When You Wish Upon a Star" in the opening. It's quite different to come up with characters that would not feel out of place in a Bill Peet short. 2/?
I have a theory as to why Zoomers love this film, and it doesn't involve toy sales. Cars is the closest Disney or Pixar will ever get to capturing the greatness of pre-WWII RKO-era Disney. The meandering pace, the precise storytelling, the strong character development. 1/?
We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old.

/8 I hate to give anything away past the first 25 minutes, but Obsession has an ending that will be talked about for decades. I saw it again yesterday, and still, nothing prepared me for how harsh it is. It's not often that I go for a horror film du jour, but here we are.
I am not the kind of cineaste that goes for the latest thing. The 5s I have given out for films this decade are few, if not far between. I will even go so far to say that the films released this decade tend to be "in one ear, out the other" or "here today, gone tomorrow." /1
/7 The highest honor a horror film can give me is not a nightmare, but stunned silence that goes past the end credits until I'm out of the screening room. The only other horror film that came close to that silence was Fire Walk With Me. Both films are surgical shots to the heart.
I don't wanna alarm any of you mid-budget folks, but keep an eye on DreamWorks Pictures. $76 million over six theatrical releases ($12.7 mil average) with pretty much nothing in the pipeline is not just a bad sign. It's a shutdown in all but being said.
I was chatting with a theater employee yesterday and we were jokingly betting on this film's performance. My prediction was $90 million. If this is any indication, well...
Looks like $12.5m+ in combined previews for @projecthailmary and could be headed for a $85m-$90m opening weekend. Massive hit for @AmazonMGMStudio with A CinemaScore and 95% critics and 97% audience score on @RottenTomatoes. @philiplord@chrizmillr smashed it out of the galaxy.
