The chance to respond to the latest @crisis_uk and @HomelessAPPG enquiry, gave us a moment to pause and reflect what role services play in our lives...
What if the barrier here is the hostel style accommodation rather than "people who have complex needs"? Maybe a different solution would have been celebrated #Iwouldalsostruggleinhostelstyleaccommodation
We’ve launched a new scheme offering ‘sleeping pods’ to rough sleepers in Sheffield. They are aimed at helping people who have complex needs, so may struggle in hostel style accommodation. Read more about the difference this innovative scheme is making: https://t.co/jyQFRjvCND
Lighter evenings bringing opportunities to spend a bit of time exercising self care at the end of the day (no pun intended). A reminder that after a day walking alongside others talking about self care, to spend a bit of time on my own #keepingspiritsbalanced
“Hostel tenancy ended because he wouldn’t tidy his room. He wouldn’t cook when told to.” Are these rules equally applicable to the homes of hostel staff? (Some)Teenagers? (Some) Service managers? #doasisaynotasido
Are institutions primarily hosting clients within their services or are they (the professionals that work in them) guests in the lives of the citizens/communities they serve?
To= everything done, is to us & without us. (Medical Model)
For= everything done, is done for us; without us. (Charity Model)
With= nothing for us without us. (Social Model/Coproduction/Co-design, Asset-based approaches)
By= done by us for us. (Asset-based Community Development)
I’ve heard councils/social housing providers blame mould on ‘occupant behaviour’ more than once & failed to rebuke. So I’ll be crystal clear about it here:
If the housing can’t tolerate drying clothes or closed windows without mould then *the housing* is the problem.

What this pandemic has shown is that working from home is possible in most sectors. This has been the single biggest barrier for disabled people.
Employers should now be more flexible when hiring disabled people as we’ve seen it can work.
Our abilities should now be utilised.

Great blog @RichardBoylan1 This has to resonate with many who work in environments and systems that are forever sticking legs on what should be obviously simple. The legs become barriers. This is difficult, imagine how hard it is for those who are asking for help & trapped within
"The analogy 'adding legs to a snake' simply means that you are doing unnecessary work that is actually ruining your result." @RichardBoylan1 asks if we're doing too much when it comes to working alongside people going through tough times? #PTS https://t.co/Z5vkvdEncn
As someone who frequently advocates "with" not "to" or "for", I probably need to think a little more about "by". Is it a bit like "at the end of the project, the local people said "we did that", and they were right?"
Here’s a terrific opportunity for someone keen on proliferating #ABCD within a city- Executive Director- Gloucester Community Building Collective https://t.co/hFobXN5siN
