@SiriCarpenter While you wait for the book to arrive, you can listen to my conversation with Siri for last year's #HotSciCommSummer.

It's a great day to think about how to help people make sense of good science. I've already been enjoying the new edition of The Craft of Science Writing! It's a great collection of chapters on all corners of science communication. Kudos to @SiriCarpenter for organizing it!
๐๐๐ It's a momentous dayโthe day the world has been waiting for! I refer, of course, to the publication of the second edition of THE CRAFT OF SCIENCE WRITING from The Open Notebook! https://t.co/Q8lWdg3Unp
For the curious, here's a behind-the-scenes look at the letterpress portion of making these cards. New wood type + antique metal type locked up on an old Signpress.
I waited to hit Episode 100 to finally feature an interview with my PhD advisor. He and the model he developed deserved an episode of honor. So, here it is!
Episode 100!! ๐ฅณ
A long-overdue discussion of the Elaboration Likelihood Model and the series of lucky accidents that led Rich Petty to build a career as a persuasion expert.

I've spent lots of time sharing psych science outside academia. Podcast ing @OpinionSciPod, YouTube vids, helping edit @SPSPnews' blog, etc. All of it mostly just for the love of it and a service to a science I value.
But once in a while, a real award is a nice recognition ๐
Fun news! Iโm excited to announce that Iโve been selected as a winner of the National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications (@SciCommAwards) given by @theNASEM in partnership with @schmidtsciences!

@opatcorneille @NatRevPsych Looking forward to reading this. Your big reviews over the last several years on implicit measures and what they're good for (or not) have been a huge contribution. Thanks!

Whoa! Just saw that @OpinionSciPod just crossed another neat milestone: 200,000 downloads!
It's certainly not the biggest podcast in the world, but for an indie social science show, I'm pretty proud of that.
(And I *promise* more episodes are on their way. Sorry for the delay!)
If anyone has recent research that they'd like to share with a wider non-academic audience, let me know! @SPSPnews' Character & Context blog is always looking for new work to share, and it's totally fine if you've never written about research in this format before.
And if you were wondering, "type high" refers to the standard height of material to be printed: 0.918 inches. This exact standard is important because if you're "A" is 0.01 inches below your "B," they won't print with the same intensity (or at all!). So .918 = 9-18 = Sept 18
You may know that I've become obsessed with letterpress printing. To celebrate "Type High Day" (a printer's version of Pi Day), I finally decided to launch an Etsy shop to get these prints out of my house.

Come for nerdy old-school paper goods!
I can't help but see my interest in letterpress as yet another extension of my scholarly interest in persuasive communication. This was the breakthrough that enabled mass communication.
(Soon you'll get to hear about it on @OpinionSciPod!)
