I think of all the incredible birds in West Papua, perhaps the most memorable of a recent trip was seeing Magnificent Riflebird displaying - the sounds, the dance....as good as gets
Nice to see 3 species of Crowned Pigeon in West Papua this last month - especially as I had missed Victoria's on my first visit to Nimbokram some 10 years since
2 of Malagufuk's most wanted Kingfishers - Blue-Black & Red-breasted Paradise, literally didn't know which way to look as they were calling within 20yrds of each other
Kangean Tit-Babbler - I've been meaning to make the visit to Kangean the last few years and finally managed to fit it in. The Tit-Babblers were mainly high up in the trees, but eventually came lower down.
Having a break in Yogjakarta at the moment and thought it'd rude not to fit a visit in to Jatamulyo for the critically endangered Javan Blue Flycatcher - the guys here doing an excellent job for the birds
As well as the endemic Flycatcher & White-eye, other good birds around the camp include Bornean Frogmouth, Bornean Banded Pitta, Hose's Broadbill & Fruithunter and a number of endemic subspecies, so plenty to try and see
After a steep, muddy, slippery, wet hike up into the Meratus mts, you've got to make camp to search for the 2 endemics - it's quite grim and not everyone's cup of tea
After the hardships of South Kalimantan, nice to be sat in a hide this morning having great views of the east Javan endemic, Grey-breasted Partridge on Gunung Ijen
