There are ways to avoid the @HooverBucsBBall vs. @HHSPantherHoops matchup in the regional final. This game deserves the stage of a state championship game.

Vestavia Hills coach Patrick Davis says a proposal is being brought to the table to make the high school basketball playoffs the best they can be.

"We've got a lot of traction in our state in our basketball coaches' association to try and change the playoff format. It's not right that Huntsville and Hoover are playing in the regional final. They're two top 25 teams in the country and they shouldn't be playing in the regional final. There's a lot of traction for a change. There's a lot of coaches that are getting behind it. Other coaches need to ask and reach out and study, 'How can we make it better?' I'm not bashing anybody. There are ways you can get the best teams in and get the best teams further.

"I think it's time for coaches to look and see how we can make it better.

"Our coaches association has a plan in place that we want to present. It's got to go through a lot of channels, and we need those channels to look at it and go, 'This is good for our sport.'"

Too many times in our state, ideas get shot down and directed to the tedious and laborious approval process. Hopefully the people that can make this work have the necessary awareness and dedication to their constituents to keep pushing forward.
