@HiddenYorkshire I get so annoyed about what schools fail to teach us. I went to a grammar school where i got 11 O levels - ridiculous overkill - but ZERO advice on how to navigate tax, insurance, national insurance, renting/buying flats, benefits, all the things we would all need. Nuts.
@HiddenYorkshire In early 90s, that still kind of applied. I got started writing sketches for radio shows, and drawing a strip in a local paper; absolute pin money, but enough to rent a bedsit in Clapham. Different world now
@hayleycampbell Yep we all saw that together. Eddie got the 8 movie blu-ray frankenstein box set so we’ve started on that... if i remember right the first 3 are belters then it’s a long steady slide down to Abbott and fucking Costello
@LukeBarnett@nofilmschool I looked at the ad showing a script being ‘improved’ by the AI. Every single line gets longer, flabbier, adjective-heavy and just plain worse. All stuff you’d trim out on a tightening pass. If that’s what they’re putting in the shop window, it’s a no from me
@HiddenYorkshire The Office (orig UK) version is like this too i think. Rewatched it last year. In 2001, Tim, Dawn and David Brent were tragic figures in normal but dull stable jobs, not following dreams. Now i look at it and feel like saying, you’re all doing great!
Yesterday I was lucky enough to be at the Wigmore Hall to see @ErrollynWallen play and Ruby Hughes sing, and it was GREAT. And it was going out live on Radio 3 so you can hear it here. A grand hour. https://t.co/axk2He0qA4
Yes, kids still read comics "nowadays".
No, it would not be a good idea to bring corporal punishment back into the Beano.
There's no 'p' in DC Thomson.
No, comics are not "drawn by computer" these days.
Hope that helps. 😄
Tomorrow - i'm on in Sudbury as part of a great evening of poetry and spoken word and FUN. Not too pricey either! Come along if you're in the area. I'll be giving away a few books too
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to submit to our 2025 call out. We received 400 entries & were generally bowled over by the quality of the writing. We are excited to now announce our quarterfinalists here: https://t.co/GcuJHqjd03
This is nuts. In London alone she already has a big park and a shiny new tube line named for her. A chunk of Antarctica the size of Britain is called Queen Elizabeth Land. How many memorials does one person need?
Brain/tech link in science fiction: "I know kung fu!"
What we'll actually get:
"I have a monthly subscription to knowing kung fu and they just hiked the charges again and I still keep getting unskippable ads in the middle of kung fu"
I have 5 litres of fake blood i'd like to get rid of. About 70 quidsworth. What I'd *like* to do is, donate them to someone heroically making a zero-budget horror movie on a wing and a prayer. Is that u or someone u know? Who can collect from an N10 address? DMs are open!
As today's her birthday, today I remember Debbie Barham, a comedy writer of my generation who died very young. As far as I know, she was the youngest broadcast comedy writer there ever was or will be. 17 when she turned pro!
