#Boards are falling behind on #AI.
Too many still treat it as an IT topic while it’s reshaping strategy, risk, and value creation.
AI is not an IT project. It’s a #leadership responsibility.
Boards can’t afford AI blindness anymore.

On Tuesday at @Workday Horizon Zurich, almost nobody spoke to me about AI.
They spoke about productivity, complexity, too many tools, too many systems, and work that still feels harder than it should in 2026.
The real opportunity is not to add AI on top, but to redesign work itself.

Anyone can sound smart once the market agrees with them.
The harder work happens earlier, when you walk into room after room and still have to explain why AI belongs on the leadership agenda at all.
That’s what we did when we founded @SwissCognitive in 2016. Not to make AI sound impressive. To make it understandable, relevant, and serious enough that boards and executive teams could actually make decisions with it.
Fast forward to today, and the questions are sharper and more expensive to ignore: governance, accountability, risk, competitiveness, and capability. AI didn’t get easier because it got popular. It just got harder to dodge.
In our latest piece, @DalithSteiger and I reflect on what it took to build trust before the market caught up and why credibility still matters in a world full of tools, claims, and urgency.
If you’re tired of theatre and looking for clarity, you’ll enjoy this one.

AI has clearly and irreversibly moved into the decision layer of every company. At least for every company that wants to remain competitive.
That was the most striking takeaway from the AI in the Boardroom webinar with @andy_fitze from @SwissCognitive.
What became clear very quickly through our conversation: the real shift shows in how decisions are 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝, and 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝.
Across organisations, we see a consistent gap. AI capabilities are advancing quickly at the operational level, while 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 at the same speed. That is where complexity turns into 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤.
One insight stood out in particular: AI should not only be used to improve existing processes, but it should also trigger the question of 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥. That is a board-level discussion about 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
At the same time, as AI starts to support decision-making with more data, patterns, and scenarios, 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 becomes more demanding, not less. Boards need to understand where AI informs decisions and where human judgment remains essential.
And then there is trust. The less people understand AI, the more hesitation we see. AI literacy is not a technical detail, it directly shapes 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, and 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
The question is not whether AI belongs in the boardroom. It already does. The question is 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐭.
If you want to explore this further and build real AI fluency at board level, our 𝐀𝐈 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 is designed exactly for that.

AI doesn’t fail because leaders “don’t believe” in it. It fails when strategy, governance & day-to-day execution don’t connect.

#AI hit the board agenda before most boards noticed.
Since 2016, we’ve worked to turn it into decisions, not noise.🧭
With Dalith, we share the backstory, our learnings through the years, and argue why the hard part now is orientation. 🧠

Some recognitions take you back to where it all started.
From a moment in 2014 to building @SwissCognitive, one belief stayed constant: AI must create real value and serve people.
Grateful to everyone who shaped this journey. The work continues.

AI is moving faster than our leadership reflexes.
82% of executives expect more change in 2026, yet only 38% of employees feel their organisations can respond effectively. That’s not resistance — it’s a readiness gap.
Boards must align strategy, talent, and governance to turn AI ambition into real impact.

AI sovereignty is now a board topic: control, flexibility, resilience.
With uneven scaling power (KPMG) and CEOs steering AI spend (BCG), boards need an AI posture, not pilots.

Technology only creates value when it’s paired with judgment and responsibility.
I recently shared two interviews on leadership, crisis resilience, empowerment, and the real role of AI in business and society.
Different angles, one common thread: progress needs context and human responsibility.
