@Aella_Girl If folks remember everything you say, then say "every time you see me wearing this particular clothing item or accessory, it means please give me some space and let me have some feeling of anonymity"
As Claude gets smarter, I get more embarrassed asking it simple questions. Marvin from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy implanted this idea into me. "Brain the size of a planet and they ask me to take them down to the bridge. Call that job satisfaction? βCos I donβt."
Unrelated to the point of his post, but it's funny how "the sky is blue" is the shorthand for "something that's obviously true"...even though the sky changes colors quite a lot. It "turns red" almost every day.
Recursive self-improvement going from being a ridicule-worthy fringe sci-fi concept to a completely normalized part of the discourse which is βobviously the planβ is one of the more dramatic Overton window shifts Iβve experienced
Thereβs something disorienting about it, like if the sky suddenly turned red, and everyone acted like it had been that way all along
I just asked Claude to help me understand a complicated Sam Kriss essay. Yeesh. I don't think AI is smarter than every human yet, but...I do think it is now smarter than me. Weird feeling.
@selentelechia I tried making my own Uncrustables. I bought the special stamps that cut them just right, then I saved the wrappers from a box of real ones, and slid mine inside, and froze them. I think my kid could still tell they were homemade, but he ate them all right π
@msabominable@corsaren Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. A fanfic retelling where Harry Potter is a child prodigy and demonstrates philosophies of the author, Eliezer Yudkowski, on rationality and artificial intelligence. I personally love hpmor. Just search for it online, it's free to read.

@DaCaveOfWonders Good pushback, my examples weren't great. But I think my main point is also missed: while many would agree with you and feel violated and upset (as you say), I think many others would be delighted or at least equanimous. For example, I think I'm in the latter group.
@DaCaveOfWonders Ok maybe those weren't the best examples...grok said they both found the attention overwhelming and often problematic even if a few benefits came along. But grok also mentioned a few other virals who reported mostly positive experiences, like the Hide Yo Wife guy.
@DaCaveOfWonders You sure this is universal truth? I think many would be ok with candid video going viral. As long as not super embarrassing or defamatory. Some famous kinda embarrassing meme people seem ok, like how the Chocolate Rain guy & Leave Brittney Alone got to be in a Weezer music video
I think of how some say "Why are we spending money going to the moon where there are all these problems here on earth?"
Well, we spend over 99% of our money and effort on earth and just a tiny sliver on going to the moon. You are already winning this. You aren't fighting a moon vs earth battle. That is already well decided in favor of earth. You are arguing that 100.00% of funds should be spent on earth and that 0.00% should be spent on space exploration. That is a very extreme claim that you are trying to make sound like common sense, because you are obscuring the full picture. "Should this specific dollar go to the moon or earth?" Seems like earth is the better choice until you zoom out and earth already has 1000x more dollars and you are fighting over the tiny pile that had gotten allocated to the moon.
@DaCaveOfWonders Yeah I would love to have a weekly or even monthly always-happening hangout. I've thought about starting one but haven't had the initiative. Were you in my monthly dinner party groupme? I failed to keep doing it every month and eventually forgot about it.
@visakanv In the early spring mornings when dozens of birds start waking up and chirping at each other. Also, there's a very discordant, broken-sounding guitar solo I love in the song Inertiatic Esp by the Mars Volta (2:15). I also love clouds and other beautiful things in the sky.
