🚨🇷🇺🇨🇳 Russia & China push a ‘Polar Silk Road’ via the Northern Sea Route

The Northern Sea Route (NSR) is becoming a strategic Arctic corridor connecting China and Europe, extending the Belt and Road Initiative into Polar waters.

🔸The route cuts Asia-Europe transit time by nearly half (around 20 days vs Suez route) and reduces fuel consumption by 30-40%

🔸Since 2024, both countries intensified joint development of the NSR with a focus on logistics, container shipping, and year-round operations

🔸China’s NewNew Shipping Line has already completed multiple voyages. A Rosatom subsidiary and Chinese partners signed agreements for regular container lines between Russian and Chinese ports

🔸High ice-class (ARC7) container vessels are being jointly designed, with the first ship expected in 2027, and a target of five vessels with 4,400 TEU capacity each at stage 1

🔸In 2025, Chinese companies made 17 voyages along the NSR – a joint roadmap aims for 20 million tons of annual Russia–China cargo traffic via the Arctic by 2030
