6 April 1652: Aankoms van Jan van Riebeeck

Die middag om 14h30 van 5 April 1652 word Tafelbaai gewaar deur die opperstuurman van die Drommedaris, een van die drie skepe waarmee kommandeur Jan van Riebeeck op 6 April 1652 aan Tafelbaai land om ʼn verversingspos vir die VOC te stig. Die ander twee skepe was die Goede Hoop en die Reijger, wat hulle om vieruur die oggend by die Drommedaris aan die Kaapse kus aangesluit het. Die skepe het op 6 April naby die kus bly le, terwyl Adam Hulster, die boekhouer, en die onderstuurman, Aernt van Ieveren, per sloep vertrek het om Tafelbaai te verken. Hoewel Jan van Riebeeck en sy geselskap nie lyflik op 6 April 1652 aan die Kaap voet aan die wal gesit het nie, het hy self hierdie dag as die verjaarsdag van die nedersetting beskou.
