“When doom is in fashion, joy becomes countercultural” - love this Op-ed- someone remind me to discuss it with the kiddos after spring break. Meanwhile, I’m sitting outside and listening to the birds. https://t.co/BATqdBGRcP
Had such a great time with my AP Langers today @smithsoniannpg We celebrated the end of testing and looked at portraiture to round out our Memoir unit as they begin thinking about telling their own stories for the college essay. How do artists and writers tell stories? @OaktonHS
I addressed the elephant in the classroom & dove into the use of AI for analysis. Together we asked @ChatGPTapp ?s about assigned readings & discussed who is harmed and who is helped when using AI, and how to do it ethically. Thanks @LJ_Colgan for your help @OaktonHS
Excited to announce September's students of the month in my Eng 12 Honors class @OaktonHS These students have kicked off senior year with excitement & a commitment to learning, setting a great example for their peers. Not pictured, Karthik and 2 fab AP Langers- Owen and Andrew.
And so begins my 20th year of teaching. Year 11 @OaktonHS for me, first day of 7th grade @RockyRunMS for Josh, and 1st day of 2nd grade @GBW_ES for Wyatt. We love @fcpsnews It’s going to be a great year!
@PotomacRoseSoc@AmericanRoseSoc Where did you get the rose from? I just planted a couple of climbers also, and I’ve never heard of an ola. Will have to look that up, thanks for the tip!
@AnawlTeach Yes! And elementary schools need even more. It’s ridiculous to ask little kids to sit all day. My children have really struggled with it. I think I had at least 45 minutes of recess total, when I was a kid.
This book is a must read! Check out my 5-star review of Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall

Shout out also to Gabrielle R who made 4th Round Finalist with her editorial, “Ignorance is Not Bliss, America Must Prioritize Geographical Literacy.” Yay, Oakton writers!
Congratulations to Zaynab H. for being recognized as a runner-up in the New York Times 10th Annual Student Editorial Contest! Her article “Sportswashing in Soccer: The Beautiful Game Needs Saving”, was in the top 23 out of over 12,000 entries from around the world! #WEAREOAKTON
Looking for summer reading ideas? Check out these recommendations from some of my students. There is something for everyone on here, from Dostoevsky to Big Nate.
@Kimposs1b1e What about the fact that there is still a game called Old Maid? Saying this as someone who also recently played the new version with her kids, btw. We need to write a better game title. 🤮💕
So much fun watching my students @OaktonHS for the Mock Trial they are doing in lieu of a final exam. Watch out world, these graduating seniors mean business. #weareOakton
This story is really interesting, and it includes a link to the new movie’s trailer. I had no idea where Barbie came from. Plus the new movie looks like fun. Check it out! https://t.co/AKQ2uPGt1l
Shout out to the students of the month for Senior Seminar @OaktonHS The students this month were chosen by their peers as the hardest, unsung workers, and I agree. So proud of these two ladies.
Education should include training in how to be calm and unafraid. Since scientists now recognise the significance of warm-heartedness and peace of mind in personal and social well-being, it’s time training to cultivate such qualities was included in the general education system.
Took my #APLang class to @smithsoniannpg today for some inspiration as we wrap up the year’s discussions about identity and what it means to be an American. Thanks to the museum educators for our special tour. A lovely day with these awesome kiddos @OaktonHS
