Not all proposals are planned. I had no idea when my husband was going to propose. We had discussed marriage, yes, but we never talked about when. In my mind, I thought we’d have many more conversations before it happened. I think people confuse discussing marriage with knowing a proposal is coming.
When he proposed, I was genuinely surprised 😅. He also didn’t tell my parents beforehand (results may vary 😂), so there wasn’t some big secret plan that everyone knew about except me.
I was washing my hands to eat a snack prepared by my wife so I ended up getting my wedding ring wet. Had to go look for a towel amongst the wedding gifts we received on our wedding day. My wife escorted me to go look for the towel. We do things together as a married couple.
I actually agree with you, which is why I prefaced my comment by saying I don’t know your friend’s situation. My point was broader than his specific case. It is a mindset issue. Most Malawians are raised to look for jobs rather than create them. From a young age, success is often defined as being employed by a respected institution, not building an institution that employs others. That’s slowly changing, but we still have a long way to go.
@PempheroMphande@vinny_chic Not sure about your friend, but another perspective is that the child isn’t always the right person to take over. Sometimes a stranger will grow and protect what you’ve built better than your own blood. And while some children from wealthy backgrounds take privilege for granted,
God forbid I work this hard only for my children to be applying for jobs and unpaid internships because I want them to “find their own way.” My children will never have to beg anyone for employment because they will already have businesses I am building to run, Inshallah!
