As you watch the Aurora this evening, it’s worth reflecting that you’re getting a rare direct glimpse of the power of Nature. Those charged particles causing the atmosphere to glow came from a sunspot complex 17 times the diameter of Earth and traveled across 90 million miles at a million miles an hour. Without our magnetic field to protect us, our atmosphere would have been lost to space long ago. Those colours in the sky are Nature reminding us that we’re very lucky to be here amidst the violence. And perhaps therefore also reminding us not to shite it all up :-)
The No Mow May campaign goes from strength to strength. Put your mower away for a month, everyone. Do it for the bees. The National Trust is at it again this year. Well done @Love_plants https://t.co/lEOjy5D6Oi
Thanks so much to everyone who voted in SW London.
Nobody knows our community as well as Gareth, and he will be a fantastic, hard-working Assembly member, and a strong voice for SW London in City Hall.
The worst Prime Minister of Britain since Anthony Eden, the man whose long series of lies & lazy misjudgements has done more damage to this country than anyone else in modern history, rides to the support of his Israeli counterpart, the equally catastrophic Benjamin Netanyahu. What a monstrous pair they both are, and what terrible & irreparable damage both have brought to their countries...
This is interesting because the basic arguement matches a recent Telegraph opinion piece - and it’s both correct and naive. It’s correct because the only way Brexit could have worked economically speaking was to use it to deregulate, lower business taxes, shrink the state etc. It’s naive because the majority of U.K. voters - especially those who voted for Brexit - don’t want that. They actually want a European social model - high spending on health, education, defence, etc. And the only way you can have that in today’s difficult geopolitical world (given our geographical position on the European continent) is to be part of the vast, pan-continental single market and customs union that exists to deliver the European social model as far as is possible. This is why the Labour Party, in government, will eventually begin the process of joining the European single market and customs union. The only other option is to follow the Brexiteer vision of a much smaller state - and a large majority do not want that. As the recent Telegraph piece pointed out, these are the only two choices that do not lead to inevitable economic decline.
Who represents the biggest danger to our kids?
The most recent records, (2020/21) show:
89% of child sex offenders in England & Wales were white.
6% were Asian
3% were Black
1% were mixed ethnicity
1% were from 'other'
Facts always go down well with the flag shaggers - let's have some more.
2020 saw 8345 people convicted.
7353 were white.
464 Asian.
310 black.
175 were mixed & other.
43 didn't have their ethnicity recorded
96% of all charged were men - 90% of whom were known to the family of the victim.
But sure, stop the boats 🫤
With the Government today saying “it will call out malicious attempts to undermine our democracy wherever we find them” has a single UK news show pointed out its over 3 years since the #RussiaReport showed credible evidence of Russian interference in UK elections yet our government has continually turned a blind eye to its jaw-dropping findings?
After failing to get National Trust members to vote for its candidates, Restore Trust announced its Director would move to offshore-funded thinktank Legatum Institute. Now Legatum's produced a report calling for political intervention in the National Trust https://t.co/OrcCjzJxMP
