Visa tips 🚨

If you’re less than 25, consider buying an affordable piece of land, even if it costs only ₦150k and the location isn’t prime yet.

The land I bought when I was 19 later became useful during my visa application. One thing visa officers may consider is whether you have ties to your home country and reasons to return. Property ownership can be supporting evidence of economic ties.

But don’t buy land solely because you think it guarantees a visa. It doesn’t. Your finances, employment, family circumstances, travel purpose and overall application still matter.

Buy genuine land you can afford, verify the documents properly and keep every ownership document. Something you bought cheaply at 19 may become both an appreciating asset and useful evidence of your economic ties years later.

My cousin was interested in a girl from his department from their first year at university. She was very intelligent, dressed well, smelled good and had a small business she managed after school. Those were some of the things that attracted him to her.

By 200 level, he finally asked her out. They dated for about eight months before she broke up with him.

If you are building a life together, help him protect what he has worked for. Don’t encourage unnecessary spending just because you want to impress people who are not contributing anything to your future.

Encourage saving. Encourage investing. Encourage building assets. If there is ₦500k available, your first thought doesn’t always have to be about what both of you can buy. Sometimes ask, “What can we invest this money in?”

Enjoy your relationship and enjoy your money, but build something together while you still have the income and strength to do it.
