Virginia's data center tax break has ballooned from $1.25 million a year in 2008 to $1.9 billion today. That's a 152,000% increase. Taxpayers are footing the bill for AI profits.
Virginia's data center tax giveaway cost public schools $267 million in just FY 2024 alone.
That's $212 per student, or roughly $2,800 per teacher, gone. Lost revenue by county:
Fairfax: $38M
Prince William: $19M
Loudoun: $17M
Richmond City: $4.4M
While much of the attention around Virginia’s budget has been on data centers, another important issue is quietly making its way through the process: buried in the House proposal is language that would halt mandatory audits of candidates who ran for statewide office last year, several legislators, and local elected officials.
At a time when public trust in government is already strained, Virginia should be strengthening accountability, not rolling it back.

Virginia lawmakers reached a budget agreement this weekend, preventing a government shutdown and setting spending priorities for the next two years.
✅ The good news: Senate leaders secured $1.2 billion in new revenue gains.
❌ The bad news: Big Tech gets to keep its billion-dollar data center tax break.

People struggling to pay bills are cheering on the president and his allies become richer at their expense.
All because he claims to hate the same people they do.
Culture war is powerful, and awful.
For all the “I just don’t like her laugh, people,” please tell me if these high gas prices, lawless losing war, high unemployment, blatant corruption, or racist assault on representation by the confederate south was worth not having to hear her laugh?
Michelle and I can’t wait for you to visit the Obama Presidential Center!
Starting on June 19, the Center will be open to the public, and you’ll be able to check out the Museum along with public spaces like a new branch of the Chicago Public Library with a reading room, a two-acre playground, a fruit and vegetable garden, and more.
Tickets available at https://t.co/ahkDMKalIn.
He didn't start any wars.
He didn't alienate our allies.
He created/recovered 16M jobs.
He signed the infrastructure bill.
He signed the CHIPS Act.
He signed the PACT Act.
He didn't build monuments to glorify himself.
He didn't use the presidency to enrich himself.
He didn't threaten to wipe out an entire civilization.
We were BETTER off under Biden.
Thirty years ago Susan Collins pledged to retire after two terms, saying "12 years is enough."
Twelve years of Susan Collins is, indeed, much more than enough. I have never agreed with the Senator more.
🚨BREAKING: Virginia court REJECTS Republican lawsuit in challenging the legislature’s authority to alter the 2021 congressional map. A HUGE victory for our client the DCCC and the voters of Virginia. Another defeat for the GOP. https://t.co/vFY56Uiwxo

Remember when Obama Stopped Iran from acquiring a NUKE without killing 100+ school children, skyrocketing oil prices, getting hundreds of Americans injured or killed, or dropping a single bomb?
Reminder Virginia has 3 more referendums on the November ballot
Adding language to Virginia constitution:
- Protect right to abortion
- Remove ban on Same Sex marriage
- Restore voting rights to those convicted of felonies once they serve their sentence
Expect all 3 to pass
Virginians made their voices heard clearly by voting YES to stop the Trump power grab and level the playing field.

🚨NEWS: Virginia now has Paid Family and Medical Leave!
Working Virginians will no longer be forced to give up their paycheck to welcome a child or care for a loved one facing a serious illness.
A historic step forward for the people who power Virginia’s economy.
Today, I signed the Momnibus — a package of bills to improve healthcare coverage for moms and babies.
No mother should have to fear dying from childbirth. We have the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income country, and we know Black women are at greatest risk.
Henrico came out 💪💪💪 for the YES campaign: +28
NOT by chance. Behind that is the tireless, grinding work of each volunteer (and we're ALL volunteers) who staffed a table, made a call, knocked a door, assembled a sign, convinced a neighbor, etc. 🥵🥵🥵
We thank you ALL ❤️
Thank you McDonalds for hiring those facing federal job losses. Every family deserves to earn a living and that’s why we raised our minimum wage in Virginia to $15 an hour.
My party is Dem women, whether they’re leftists or liberal progressives. Give me Lauren Underwood, AOC, Abigail Spanberger, Michelle Wu, Mikie Sherrill, Gretchen Whitmer, Katie Hobbs, Letitia James, and on and on…
All joyful warriors getting shit done.
