At today’s City Administrator Budget hearing, the CAO tried to argue that the Mayor’s Office budget hasn’t exploded since this administration took office.
The numbers say otherwise.
FY20:
$14.6 million
88 positions
Proposed FY27:
$29.1 million
134 positions
That’s nearly DOUBLE the spending and a massive increase in staffing.
The excuse? They claimed some functions are “new” and therefore shouldn’t be compared.
But when you actually read the budgets side by side and remove newer functions like Opioid Restitution and the Office of Older Adult Affairs, the comparison is still clear:
The same core functions that were handled by 88 employees in 2020 are now being handled by roughly 122 employees in 2027.
So the real question is simple:
Why has the Mayor’s team grown by nearly 40%?
As Barry Glazer would say:
“Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining”
Pero qué es esto? Umm…no! Where was my handout back when I was a single Latina mother? No govt programs for me, no child support while I was in college. Somehow I still managed to press forward. Our city needs to spend its $$ wisely for road repairs, schools, etc. 1st!
🚨WATCH: A Baltimore councilwoman wants to use taxpayer dollars to provide food and other services to illegal immigrants and their families.
Councilwoman Odette Ramos told Catalina Rodriguez-Lima, the director of the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, that there are families who are "hiding" in Baltimore and need "food support."
"We need to get you this money," Ramos said Wednesday. "We absolutely need to do that ... I think we're at a time where we can lead as a city for how we do this."
Rodriguez-Lima noted earlier in the meeting that Baltimore is trying to raise money to provide services to illegal immigrants and their families, citing the fact they are ineligible for federal benefits.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
We were told that the $641 MILLION in COVID relief money would be a one time investment used responsibly. Instead, one of the most controversial programs created was “Clean Corps” a $14 MILLION neighborhood cleanup program paying select groups to do work @BaltimoreDPW already performed and continued to perform in hundreds of other neighborhoods, and our own communities and volunteers were already doing for free.
Meanwhile, the hardworking men and women of DPW showed up every single day throughout COVID, risking their health to keep this city running, while lacking basic equipment and supplies to do their jobs safely. Imagine how insulting it was to watch millions get handed out to politically connected cleanup groups while DPW workers were left behind.
We were told that Clean Corps was a temporary, two year bridge program created by the former planning director, Chris Ryer, and that workers would eventually transition into real @AFSCME union city jobs with salaries and benefits.
That commitment is now broken.
Instead of ending the program now that the money has run out, taxpayers are now stuck with a new $3 MILLION annual General Fund burden. Even worse, after money from the program went missing, the @Bmore_CivicFund is refusing to take legal action to recover the money or the assets that were purchased with that money.
So now Baltimore taxpayers get the worst of both worlds:
Broken promises. Missing money.
And another permanent bill for our constituents who are already paying the highest property taxes in the state.
We need to stop throwing good money after bad. If we have 3 million to spend on cleaning up our streets, it needs to go to the hardworking men and woman of DPW, FULL STOP. 🛑
I’m reporting live on @wbalradio from the @md_sbe in #Annapolis on the @C4WBAL & @BryanNehman Show as in the wake of incorrect mail-in ballots to the tune of 5K being sent out, @POTUS is placing blame at the feet of @GovWesMoore as his office says that is “false & irresponsible”.

2012. CNN does a segment on the complete failure of Obama's 2 year, $34 million reflecting pool renovation.
This was less than a month after the reflecting pool reopened.
Notice how CNN didn't blame the Obama in any way. They would treat Trump the same way right?😜

JUST IN: Democrat Maine Governor Janet Mills has dropped out of the race for U.S. Senate.
Mills previously went viral after President Trump called her out to her face for refusing to comply with his executive order banning men from women's sports.
One year later, Mills says she has to suspend her campaign for U.S. Senate because she doesn’t have the financial resources.
She dropped out just weeks before her Democratic primary against Graham Platner.
“While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else – the fight – to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources,” she said.
@CollinRugg Can’t run without $? Don’t buy it.

You better believe this will be one of my topics for my show today! And the timing of the UMBC poll that dropped today in which the majority of residents do not believe the Key Bridge will ever be built on time…2030.
I like @jimmykimmel. He's funny & courageous at a time when there has been too much cowardice.
That said, this WAS a tasteless joke.
The WH will use any issue to demand he be fired because his satire touches a nerve, and ABC is right to resist.
But he'd be right to apologize.
🇺🇸What happened at the WHCD was real. Shots were fired. People were put at risk. Security had to make split-second decisions in a high-pressure moment. That’s not a setup, nor political theater. It’s a situation that could’ve gone very wrong.
And when people start throwing out “it was staged” with zero evidence, it doesn’t just miss the mark, it adds confusion to an already serious moment. Let’s be real…there are interests out there that love seeing Americans divided. And when we jump to conclusions without proof, we’re helping fuel that divide.
You can disagree with any leader or policy, that’s part of the American deal. But creating narratives around violence without anything to back it up? That’s a problem. We should be slowing things down, not speeding up rumors.
For those questioning the setup…I’ve been to several events like this in DC over the years with the Secret Service, including with Presidents, VPs, VIP’s & presidential debates. Security is about controlling the final point of entry. Screening outside the ballroom ensures everyone inside was cleared right before entry, with no opportunity to bypass it, no side doors, no workarounds. Which shows how that low-life couldn’t get further than he did.
So let’s give credit where it’s due. The Secret Service did exactly what you’d expect in a moment like that. In the middle of all the chaos, they stayed disciplined, restrained, secured the room, & avoided making things worse.
