Guns N' Roses opened for The Rolling Stones at four shows at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in October 1989, as part of the "Steel Wheels Tour."
Mick Jagger offered half a million dollars for the 4 nights, but GNR's manager, Alan Niven, negotiated the fee up to one million, a figure the Stones ultimately accepted.
That period was chaotic for the band, they hadn’t toured in months, and substance abuse, especially Axl Rose’s, complicated rehearsals.
In fact, the first show nearly got canceled because Axl locked himself in his apartment minutes before going on stage. Despite the problems, the experience ended up serving as a bridge between generations of rock, and both bands would share the stage again years later, in 2006, during a European tour by the Stones.

Stanislav Petrov saved the world.
Soviet system warned of 5 US nuclear missiles. Protocol: report it.
He didn’t. Too few missiles + new system = false alarm. Waited.
It was sunlight on clouds.
Prevented nuclear war.
Silent hero. ✌️
Three years ago the first critics got early access to my book and started reading it.
Look at their serious faces!
I was biting my nails, but luckily their reviews were all positive.
Just your annual reminder to raise a glass to Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov who on this date in 1983 saved your life when he decided to wait for evidence in stead of passing on the message that could have caused armageddon.
