I guess for her, as she's definitely aquatic, sharky, and musical, whatever your brilliant imagination can spin up there. Have fun.
Another Finnish forest jar delivery to @elm7r335
And yes, I've hidden Simo . . maybe a bit too good ๐ But hey, Finnish sniper, right?! Properly invisible!
This day started with a struggle in my own mind. But just as I have shown up for people over the last four and a half years, people began showing up for me.
First, a man pulled over on the highway and asked if I needed water. I absolutely did. I had just realized I was nearly out, and the next place to refill was still three hours away. He knew what I was doing, and he stopped. I am so grateful to him.
Later, I reached a tiny village and found a little shop that I wasnโt even sure would be open. War changes everything, especially in these small communities.
I took off my gear, sat down and asked the man working there where I could find food. He walked me to the store next door. I bought some meat, cheese and ice cream, then came back for coffee and cookies.
When I tried to pay, he refused.
He looked at my strange outfit, my battalion flag hanging from my backpack, and asked where I was from. When I said #Canada, he immediately pulled out his phone. His family now lives in Edmonton.
When I arrived, the village had seemed almost empty. Within ten minutes, it felt like half the town had suddenly found a reason to stop by. Maybe I was a spectacle. Who was this crazy woman walking in from the highway?
He even offered to have his son drive me to Poltava. I explained several times that I was walking. The confusion on his face was unforgettable, but eventually he just said, โOkay.โ
I stayed there for more than an hour before heading back onto the road.
I sent my location to the volunteers from Operation Change, and just as I was leaving this tiny village in the middle of nowhere, there they were.
They had come to bring me a salad.
I canโt explain how lonely war can be sometimes, but I can tell you about the friendships it creates.
The people of Operation Change have added so much to my life. Every person in that group has their own story, their own strength and their own way of making the world better. I could never narrow my gratitude down to just one of them.
Thank you for finding me in the middle of nowhere, #Ukraine. Thank you for feeding me, supporting me and helping me keep going.
I was having a very difficult day. Then, one person after another showed up for me.
This has been a long and lonely road, but people like you remind me that I am not walking it alone.
#ThankYou
