@KevinSzabo14 Electricity was supposed to end the world in 1910 too. Also radio in 1930. And calculators in the 1980s were going to lead to widespread cognitive decline. New decade, same old show
@TTrimoreau Yes, yes you can. That's like can you call yourself a writer if you types on a computer, or a photographer if you use photoshop. Every decade its a new version of the same old thing

@TheAhmadOsman Own your intelligence-- does make a great motto lol. Would you lease your diploma if your livelihood depended on it? Then why lease intelligence. risk is too high
@geoffreyhinton International consensus is very needed right now, I feel like the only way this works is international alignment and US is falling short here.
@Maddafakka007@ravikiran_dev7 This is the way lol. I made a search agent that greps across old proposal files. So so so so simple. It literally just cleans up old word file messes on sharepoint. Businesses look at me like I'm some wizard of AI. lol Solve real, unsexy problems. ๐
Yes, open & local has to grow, itโs almost inevitable like other tech controlled centrally when it was new. Workers died building railroads. Workers died in textile mills. Workers will suffer and die, in mental health crises, displaced employment, broken relational systems, building the AI economy without action. And that takes changes at the frontier, government action, and a commitment to democratizing open source AI/ML. Opensource and private labs are hugely important in how the future of the AI economy unfolds
Itโs a bad metaphorโ that was my point. The language we normalize disproportionately affects how the general public see AI tech, and pulling metaphors from slavery and labor war recent history isnโt doing us any favors as an industry. And we already have an image problem.
There are plenty of alternatives. I usually go with โmission controlโ metaphors personally.
@TheAhmadOsman Whatโs grosser is if you have personaโs on chat GPT the day they launched it you got a popup that made the familiar persona suggest it when you first logged in. Gross. ChatGPT is the worst.
Totally agree, we have freedoms for speech, expression, for bearing arms, for gathering. But nobody making laws hundreds of years ago thought they needed to protect freedom and access to intelligence โ and we now do. Opensource, local and community hardware needs to be more accessible.
