@elite_gz I think there’s definitely loads of young DIY creation happening, can certainly say that’s true of the U.K. But that wouldn’t be written off as being made by “hipsters” I don’t think and maybe doesnt cut through in a mainstream sense as much, cause of way it’s distributed tho too
the sadness of this is that Scholes was one of the few players there are that can lay claim to having played the game like an artist. But he cannot see beauty, does not invite it into his life, will banish it if it appears. If anything, the beauty he is capable of is a burden.
@pteridoid I think that’s always existed though, hasn’t it? I think I’m basically saying that “the hipster” produced a lot of art/music alongside consumed, even if naive. A lot of it was very DIY in spirit.
re “the hipster”, in retrospect I feel defensive of the 2006-9 iteration in that it was, in my experience, a large amount of people making art, good and bad. Everyone playing in lots of bands, DJing, putting on shows etc. I think today’s version is more based around consumption.
@matdryhurst Yeah, the word “creative” is a dirty one now but at that time basically everyone I knew genuinely was in that they produced and released art all the time. They weren’t making decks.
@meatanchips Yeah maybe SXSW too. I got a grant to go to Texas to go and give out my DIY magazine and was genuinely stunned by how branded it was at the time. Wouldn’t be now I guess.
@matdryhurst Yeah I talk about this a lot. It was just easy for us to rent a club for £50 that came with a sound engineer and invite everyone we knew. That option was very open to us.
@matdryhurst yeah that’s exactly it. When I was 18 we went on tour in France on public transport because we couldn’t do it any other way. We just constantly made things, released music, toured all the time. Whereas to me the “hipster” now is posting fit pics that cost £1000s
Ppl didn’t have money to buy stuff really so clothes were generally cheap and stupid (fine), definitely pretentious (so what), cut each other’s hair (looked shit) but felt carefree and genuinely creative, rather than like….buying stuff. Anyway, that was my version of the era.
@htomufc was at Old Trafford for the game against Leeds and he was so good, unbelievable target man. Always thought he was gonna be a smart free signing for any team that got him.
@sullyn7 here’s Gabriel in the exact same sequence crouched on the floor just to pull the attacker’s shirt, the one going for the ball. Why isn’t that a pen? It’s a team that has exclusively relied on “melees in the box” and think they’ve got away with one there.
@sullyn7 he should have caught the ball, got both hands to it. He wasn’t pushed out of the way of it, his arms weren’t impaired. Don’t really care who wins the league but think that was a very bad decision.
