(1/9):
NYK/MIN/CHA - TOWNS TRADE DEEP DIVE:
Find out how Brock Aller and the New York Knicks’ Front Office pulled off a seemingly impossible trade to land another star in Karl-Anthony Towns, despite several Apron road blocks and how Pacôme Dadiet ultimately made it all possible.
For Raptors fans worried about the picks given up for Kawhi...
According to The Ringer, Scottie (age 24) was the 17th best player this season.
TOR owes LAC an unptd 1st in 2031 & 2033 - Scottie will be 29 and 31 and fully capable of leading TOR to the playoffs even w/o Kawhi.
I'm excited to share something I've been building for a while:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐁𝐀 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 - a plain-English, structured reference to the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Cap System.

LAC really only cared to put a Partial Guarantee on the 26/27 season, but since he has a PO in 26/27, the CBA mandates that the % GTD in an option year must match the % GTD in the prior year. So they had to put in this fictitious guarantee in 25/26 so they could do so in 26/27.
Little CBA wrinkle in Harden's new contract.
His $39.2M in the 25/26 season was only partially GTD for $12.3M but became Fully GTD just 5 days after it was signed.
What was the point of that?
Damian Lillard is likely to sign with a team this season, on a 2-year deal (even if for the Minimum), so that when he hits Free Agency in 2027 (1 year after he returns), the team he’s with has the ability to exceed the cap & resign him using Early Bird Rights (approx 2yr/$34.1M).
There’s been some speculation that LeBron could find his way to NYK.
If that happens, it would be a huge step in the Rich Paul / Leon Rose relationship.
Recently, an important first step was taken when NYK signed Clarkson, their first Klutch represented player since 2020!
@elsalvajeRW They only waived (and stretched) Dame to create enough cap space in order to sign Turner, so the 2 transactions are figuratively tied together.
After every Free Agency, the NBA market slightly adjusts. Some players get overpaid, some underpaid & the market can be reset. With a new perspective, how do you view what's left on these Raptors' contracts?
Ingram: 3yrs / $120M
Poeltl: 5yrs / $123.5M
Quickley: 4yrs / $130M
Heading into Free Agency, we heard "Teams have leverage to low-ball players b/c nobody has cap space."
Turner signing with MIL for 4yrs/$107M should serve as a reminder of why teams can't take full advantage of that "leverage".
If a player has value, a market can be created.
A few signings that were reported tonight that we're still waiting to see how exactly they will be executed:
- Capela to HOU (Likely S&T)
- LaRavia to LAL (Likely S&T and save NTMLE)
- LeVert to DET (Cap Space or S&T)
- Looney to NOP (NTMLE or S&T)
According to reports, Masai Ujiri is out as Vice Chairman and President of the Toronto Raptors.
@michaelgrange joined @TheFrankIsola and @Scalabrine to break it all down.
WAS added $6M in salary in 25/26 but removed over $40M off their books in 26/27 and has set themselves up to be a major player in the 2026 offseason.
Washington's front-office under Michael Winger has done a very underrated job in setting themselves up for a rebuild.
The New Orleans Pelicans are trading CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick to the Washington Wizards for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey and the No. 40 pick, sources tell ESPN.
@TheSteinLine This trade also can't be executed until after the July Moratorium, as Gafford currently has 2-years left (as we're still in the 2024-25 season). Only in a player's final season can they sign an extension until June 30th.
This is why the details matter.
The way Shams reported this extension would make him ineligible to be traded for 6-months.
However, as @TheSteinLine corrected it, the extension is actually $54M. Which will makes him eligible to be traded immediately.
Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford intends to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $60 million, sources tell ESPN. Mavericks officials and Gafford's agents, Mike George and Shy Saee of Klutch Sports, negotiated the new deal through 2028-29.
When you see the situation PHX is in with limited flexibility to rebuild the roster while stuck with the worst contract in the league (Beal with a No Trade Clause and still owed $110M the next 2 years) one thing is clear...
Washington's new front office led by Michael Winger deserves massive kudos for getting off that contract.
When Rob Pelinka said there's "not a lot available" in the Center market, I guess he meant unless you're trying to sell the farm and give up more than Sidy Cissoko and a couple 2nds.
