Oregon's Animal Cruelty DDA. I prosecute animal cruelty cases and support DAs statewide. (Follows/RTs are not endorsements. Tweets are not legal advice.)
Happy 2024!
I am starting tomorrow as a Senior Assistant Attorney General (Animal Abuse Resource Prosecutor) at Oregon's Department of Justice.
For the time being, this Twitter account will be inactive. I can be reached at [email protected].
Update on this case: This past Wednesday, in Polk County Circuit Court, a 12 person jury unanimously found Mitchell Farm guilty on 99 counts of Felony Animal Neglect in the Second Degree. Farm is going to be sentenced on September 15. Sherie Adams is still pending trial.
Update: In court today Raina Ott admitted to violating her probation by failing to show up for work crew, which she had been given in lieu of 45 days in jail. Judge Vogt continued Ms. Ott's probation and imposed the 45 day jail sentence.
Earlier today, in Lane County Circuit Court, Raina McKenzie Ott was sentenced on one count of Animal Neglect in the Second Degree for her treatment of this horse, River. THREAD
@Tam67771799 The funding for my position, which is a contractor position, is not being provided after 2023. If the bill passes it creates and funds a position at Oregon DOJ.
If you like what I do* and live in Oregon, it would be cool if you would reach out to your state legislators and ask them (politely!) to support SB 696.
*I prosecute animal cruelty and train investigators, rescues, and vets on how to investigate animal cruelty statewide.

@Tam67771799 -An emergency clause simply means the legislation takes action immediately upon passage.
-I currently have a contract with one county (Benton). I am currently appointed as a special prosecutor (without pay) in around 8 or 9 other counties.

In Oregon, Animal Neglect in the Second Degree is committed when a person, with criminal negligence, fails to provide "minimum care" for an animal in their custody or control.
