A subvertion of a classic tale to some but for others the 'offspring' of new ones.
This examples serve their (or a) kingdom as a species many in the role are born to slay.
Likely to be part of a same species society or one that WON'T waste their potential for the role.
Characters:
Zelgadis (Debatable, but still called as such by many) - Slayers Tri (Japanese)
Fiskerston - Secret Saturdays (American)
Pablo - Monsters and Pirates (Italian)
Fangface - Fangface (American)
This examples hold monstrous properties and a taste for the unknown.
'Solitude' tends to be a trendy why for their travels or adventurous personality, either to discover more like them or having to place to call their own for being pushed away by the ones who calls them as such.
One can easily get uneasy when someone affirms they can talk to the dead, but what even is the correct way to act towards someone that can Command them?
This examples aren't Necromancers but can control and/or manipulate spirits, souls or anything phantasmal, physical or not.

Can be the nostalgic feeling of times I didn't live, but there's a certain, "Unorthodox" magic in those western 80's animated series that plays their medieval setting (mostly) straight, heavily inspired on live action series of the time for sure but still satisfying to see.
Most recent example that gives the same vibes and conserve the same quality respect the setting that I know of is Redwall.
Gargoyles is close behind as well, but that one is rather modern fantasy, with both sci-fi and medieval magic squished in between.
