“Make more time for yourself: simplify, unplug and really focus on living in the present.” – Karen Kain, retired Canadian ballet dancer. #FridayFeeling
I am increasingly concerned about the well-being of missing women activists in Afghanistan. Several have ‘disappeared’, some not heard from in weeks.
I strongly urge the Taliban to ensure their safety so that they can return home.
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor are on their way home and thanked the diplomatic and other Canadian officials who have been tireless over the past two and a half years to secure the return of these two Canadians.
So happy to know our #PAFSO friend and colleague #MichaelKovrig and fellow Canadian #MichaelSpavor are on their way home after 1020 days of unjust detention. Kudos to @VinaNadjibulla@CrisisGroup and others for keeping the faith and making sure they were not forgotten.
“Today marks 1,000 days since #MichaelKovrig and #MichaelSpavor were arbitrarily detained in China...Years have been cruelly stolen from both men and their families."
“This must stop. Mr. Kovrig and Mr. Spavor must come home."

“This is not a partisan issue. I have been heartened by that,” [said the wife of #MichaelKovrig]...Canadians of all political persuasions, and all political leaders are united in the way they see this as an unjust, arbitrary detention and also in their call to #bringthemhome.”

For real? Female athletes must wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit & cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg" but male players need only wear shorts of 10cm above the kneecap and “not too baggy”. #Gender#DoubleStandard https://t.co/WkfgvnDB3B
"...the same people who insisted they cared about what happened to their fetuses would not care much at all about what happened to their children. Because nobody makes signs and marches in support of postnatal extended hospital stays" #SHRH

Let us mourn these lives tragically lost. Let us name the children. Let us act. Let us break the patterns of fighting in courts and legislatures over whether Indigenous peoples have rights, and get on implementing them in tangible ways.

People disappearing. Violence and physical harm. Land and property being taken. Culture and language being outlawed. Some of these stories are shared outside of the communities. Many of them are not.

Many more wrongs remain unmarked. We need to understand that for all the wrongs that are now written about and taught to children in classrooms, they are the tip of the iceberg — underneath them lies countless more.

First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, reflecting the ways in which knowledge is shared and passed on between generations, all have stories of the wrongs that were perpetrated through colonization.
