Reading is such an important part of our curriculum at Anker Valley and we are very lucky to be able to visit Tamworth Library once a fortnight for the children to borrow books and to further help foster a love of reading.

This afternoon, Dragonflies enjoyed sitting on our new picnic benches in the sun to have a drink and some fruit with their friends. What a lovely start to the week; let's hope the lovely sunshine stays a little longer!

Today, Dragonflies have thoroughly enjoyed the lovely weather by spending a lot of their day outside. They have been busy creating a Sand City in the sand pit and putting on shows with the musical instruments. The children enjoyed having bubbles in the water tray and

explored capacity with the different sized containers. Two Dragonflies decided to build their own house using the crates and the dominoes to decorate the living space, before adding a sign to the door for the postman.

was very impressed by the children's answers to her questions. Mrs Jones has kindly donated the book she shared with the children to the school library.

This afternoon, the children were visited by Mrs Jones (Chair of our Local Governing Body), who came in specially to read a story at the end of the school day. Dragonflies thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and shared their knowledge of the world with Mrs Jones, who

The children also brought in a book from home to swap with another child. They loved picking a new book to take home and there were lots of lovely stories to choose from.

It has been another busy and exciting day in Dragonflies to celebrate our first World Book Day. All the children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. A big thank you to the parents for helping with their costumes as they all looked fantastic!

We held our first ever set of Pancake Races, each child raced for points for their house team and then it was the turn of the mummies and daddies too! Our winning team for our first Pancake Race was Avon - Congratulations Avon! Who will be the Pancake Race Champions next year?

This afternoon, we invited parents to join us for some pancake themed fun starting with a delicious pancake in the hall. After this, the parents joined Dragonflies in their classroom where they were able to complete some pancake and St David's day themed activities together.

Dragonflies have had a very busy and exciting day to mark our first Pancake Day together. This morning, the children were joined by Reverend Sue Rowley, who led an assembly about the importance of Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) and Ash Wednesday in the Christian calendar.

Today, Dragonflies visited Spital Chapel, where they were met by Reverend Dyson who kindly showed them around. The children were able to identify similarities and differences between the Chapel and St Editha's.

The children in Dragonflies showed great imagination and creativity whilst recreating a 'real life' experience through their play yesterday. Together they built a McDonald's drive through window using the large foam bricks. See our post on Facebook.

Dragonflies have had great fun today in our fantastic cooking room decorating their pumpkin biscuits. They used orange icing and then added sprinkles and spooky eyes; they look delicious!
