I lived there in 1976 when it was still part of the Northwest Territories. I was 6 and memories of the "dry" cold when breathing in and the whistling/humming noise the northern lights made one night in the sky are still burned on my brain. That place is magical.

Oddly enough, the only thing I’ve liked added/mixed with green beans are pearl onions. My grandmother made them this way, my mom made this way, and I make them this way. It’s so automatic for me, and I look forward to the mash up of flavors. I miss the onions when I eat them at a restaurant or at a friend’s house and they just plate plain ol’ green beans.

@oelma__ In my experience, frozen green beans are about the same price per volume, and don't have the nasty flavor of the canned ones.

I'd recommend just buying a few bags of frozen ones.
