Children may abuse animals for different reasons: curiosity or accidental ex: trying to “fly” or squeezing an animal too tight; imitate what they see at home. Older juveniles may be influenced by peers. It is also one of the early signs of conduct disorder. #MacroSW

A3: I think animal abuse can be discussed more with DV and child abuse. So, if there is any type of abuse in the home, social workers and other professions are aware of the warning signs and how this is highly correlated with other types of abuse going on in the home. #MacroSW

A2: My previous internship did not do a whole lot with animals but one activity we did do for the clients was bring in an ESA animal and it was amazing to see the juvenile boys with the dog. It truly brought a different type of essence in the room. #MacroSW

The corona virus is causing a lot more stress in homes and causing an increase in child abuse. People do not realize that some kids saw school as their one safe place, and now that is just gone for the time being..
