Helloooo 2024! We’re starting the year strong with five new books hitting bookshops. We have a genre-bending memoir, the life companion you need as we start the year fresh, and a magical new novel, as well as two new editions of insightful novels.
More about each book🧵
1/10 I've been arguing on twitter for the lavish public funding of art, & yesterday I was reminded of a superb subgenre of public art. I wish that I hadn't gotten the reminder, though. It came after my father was admitted to Middlemore hospital's intensive care unit.
In case anyone missed it, the Media Council did not uphold complaints about Stuff’s publication of Tusiata Avia’s poem and feature. Here is my personal favourite line from the decision.
Congratulations to all three recipients of the 2023 Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement, in particular ANZL member Tusiata Avia - the first woman of Pasifika heritage to receive a PMALA! https://t.co/dDqrqi7kji
Book 4 of my @wcl_library#SummerReadingAdventure Bird Life by Anna Smaill. Think I was number one on the reserve list for this beautiful, mysterious novel. I loved The Chimes and I loved this too. Thank you for writing this wonderful book @AnnaESmaill
Lovely review in the Sunday Times @thetimes of @AnnaESmaill’s #BirdLife… ‘a deeply affecting novel, transcending cultural barriers while reaching through them to the essentially human’ @JanklowUK https://t.co/OXb14kd67o
Announcing the Guest Poet for takahē 109, James Brown!
We're delighted to be including a exciting selection of poems from James' forthcoming collection, 'Leadership Material' (Te Herenga Waka University Press, 2024).
Thanks @unitybookswgtn for such a perfect launch celebration for Bird Life. To @FergusTHW and Emily Perkins for such generous words and all at @thwupbooks for making it possible.
Very buzzed to wake up to a starred Publishers Weekly review for this wayward wee book. Oddly pleased by the horror descriptor too 🦅 https://t.co/LiNDHMUZED
