Yesterday, I passed my PhD viva from @Cambridge_Uni ! I thoroughly enjoyed discussing my research on butterfly pheromone evolution with @AstridGroot2 and @emiliapsantos, and thank my supervisor @mel_rosina, the Jiggins lab, @CamZoology, and Sir David for helping me celebrate
@simonhmartin and I have written a tool to visualise and identify candidate structural variants from linked read data.
With *one line* of code you can produce visualisations like this, in which you can see an inversion in the top-right corner:
π¨ New preprint alert! π¨ Excited to share our work on the origins of W chromosomes in Lepidoptera.
The Hypolimnas misippus genome supports a common origin of the W chromosome in Lepidoptera 1/6
https://t.co/jwvzfMg8UG
Finally, we compare the W chr of H. misippus to 9 other Leps and show that it shows the highest similarity with other Ws than autosomes or Z, suggesting a common origin of all W in Leps 6/6
Also, using 6 other Lep assemblies, we show that in those Z and W have low similarity, suggesting a possible B chromosome origin (or rapid divergence of the W) 5/6
