This speech is full of half-truths, distortions, misleading claims and outright lies.
Basically living up to every meme, trope and unfair stereotype, of Americans being ignorant morons.
I'll go through each of the claims he made in this segment and what the actual facts are. /1
@Ryan_Posselt Surely Minister Abetz wouldn’t make such a foolish statement?
If he was he must produce the advice from the transport experts from his department saying this.
I’ve heard that many in his department are very concerned about ignoring advice & the direction being taken.
Tassie's most overlooked road rule. If you're turning at an intersection while driving or riding, you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road.
From the Road Safety Advisory Council (https://t.co/rlUQQDOVPJ)
It's not really about whether you personally like, want or need to drive. It’s about not being DEPENDENT on driving all the time, for everything you do. And it’s about the fact that in cities, if everyone has to move by car, no one moves much at all.

@hobartstreets Thanks! Article says that state govt promised $20 million to build terminals in same 3 locations that the Councils are already building!
We are rolling these 3 out with $20 million from federal govt.
Better for state to spend $20 million on new services & a Kington terminal
Honoured to be asked to play this role @Mayors4Climate - hope I can help to advance the concerns of cities + towns in tackling the climate change challenges we’re all experiencing.
📣Meet our new #GCoMAmbassador: Hobart’s Lord Mayor @AnnaReyno, after an impactful term as GCoM Board Member, has been appointed as Regional Ambassador for Oceania!
In her 🆕role, she'll continue leading efforts to advance our mission across the continent & drive #ClimateAction.
Hello @EricAbetzMP
Curious to know if the real time bus information is being rolled out this month as promised?
Knowing that my @metro_tasmania bus was delayed would have been very helpful this morning!

@jdevine1974@cityofhobarttas@Ryan_Posselt@fontpr Hi Justin, it’s a ‘new’ water fountain so it’s operational but the water line being tested for compliance with standards.
Possibly an issue with water supply & quality in the wharf area generally?
staff are on to it, but I agree that we need to wrap this up, get it open !
The government boasts that emissions are now 28.2% below 2005 levels.
Sounds great, except that is only when you include the very dodgy "emissions" from land clearing and land use (there was massive land clearing in 2005).
The fall of "actual emissions" is a mere 1.8%.
@burgess_steven@Ryan_Posselt@YIMBYHobart snappy lines Steve, but they’re just a bit light weight & lacking much in the way of evidence.
How can a 98% development approval rate be categorised as ‘dog whistling’ when it’s actually a fact?
Dog whistling is a nasty term often linked to ills such as racism 🫢
@burgess_steven@Ryan_Posselt@YIMBYHobart Which national / international competitor are you thinking of?
We do have the fastest statutory planning approvals in the country
Our strategic planning is lacking because of no planning department in state govt
@burgess_steven@Ryan_Posselt@YIMBYHobart My advice is that the bigger experienced national developers (eg lend lease, Mirvac) aren’t here because we’re not a big enough market.
A key factor is the shallowness of our economy - too much focus on tourism, not enough on other things
@burgess_steven@Ryan_Posselt@YIMBYHobart Developers aren’t scared. They have 98% approval rate.
Tasmanian developers aren’t interested in or experienced at medium density & they think the community don’t want it.
Attracting different developers & builders to a small island state is not an easy task
@burgess_steven@Ryan_Posselt@YIMBYHobart Is that a planning or building problem? Or a housing finance and affordability problem?
In Hobart we’ve approved about 650 apartments across 20 projects and they’re not getting built.
Approvals are well above starts / completions 🤷♀️
Same comments apply to this. No wonder our state has numeracy issues when a sample so small that it doesn't even provide statistical confidence that opposition exceeds support is being mislabelled as a "clear message".
Make it stop!

EMRS Collins St bike lane commissioned Q, if this is correct that n=only 92 then the tiny sample size and the fact that there were some prior contentious questions about councils renders this absolutely useless. #politas
