Linguistics is pretty sidelined disciplinarily everywhere, but it’s interesting to see *how* it’s sidelined. It differs quite a lot between the two countries I know best, Germany and the UK. (1/)

Éternelle question qui revient au sujet des langues dites « régionales » de France… Et ce sont souvent les locuteurs eux-mêmes qui appellent leur langue « du patois »… comme j’ai pu le constater encore en Normandie.

Thought-provoking article - I definitely battled against the perception that some people are just 'naturally better' at languages, which encourages some (many?) students to just switch off re languages because they think they are not in that group.
