Behind them lay weeks of brutal fighting.

Ahead of them... the liberation of France.

In towns across Normandy, people who had lived for years under occupation came out into the streets as Allied soldiers passed through.

Imagine what the sight of those uniforms must have meant.

Freedom was coming.

Many of the young men who helped deliver it would never make it home themselves.

82 years later, we remember them.

Their courage bought freedoms generations after them would inherit.
