There's a molecule in your brain that holds the key to other dimensions.

One scientist proved it in 1995.

The pattern he found was so disturbing, the research was stopped.

Rick Strassman went into that study expecting to prove the entities were hallucinations.

He walked out of it so shaken he shut the research down and spent the next decade wrestling with what he'd witnessed.

The setup was clinical.

University of New Mexico, federally approved, IV-administered DMT under strict medical supervision, subjects screened for psychological stability, sessions recorded and transcribed.

This was one of the first legally sanctioned psychedelic studies in the United States in over 20 years, run by a board-certified psychiatrist who fully expected the "entities" to be dismissible as neurological noise.

Then the reports started coming in.

Independent subjects, in separate sessions, with no prior contact with each other, began describing the same specific scenarios. Being pulled through a tunnel or membrane at extraordinary speed. Arriving in a hyper-geometric space that felt "more real than real." Being greeted by beings who seemed to have been *waiting for them*.

Beings who communicated telepathically, often expressing something like amusement, curiosity, or impatience, as if the human's arrival was expected and routine.

The recurring descriptions were precise.

Subjects reported insectoid beings, mantis-like figures, elves, and geometric intelligences performing what felt like medical examinations or downloads of information. Many described the experience as feeling less like a hallucination and more like being *shown something* they weren't supposed to see yet.

The pattern that puzzled Strassman was the *consistency*.

Hallucinations, by their nature, are personal. Your brain draws from your memories, your fears, your cultural imagery. Someone raised Catholic hallucinates saints. Someone raised in Japan hallucinates yokai. That's how the brain works when it's generating internal content from stored material.

But, DMT experiences violated that rule.

Atheists met the same entities as believers. Skeptics who mocked the phenomenon before their session came out describing the exact same environments as the true believers who preceded them. Cultural background didn't determine the content. Something else did.

Strassman couldn't explain it, and neither could the subjects, many of whom were tenured academics, engineers, and physicians with no framework for what they'd experienced.

Several refused to accept the "brain chemistry" explanation because the phenomenology was too specific, too coherent, too *interactive* to feel like a dream.

The neurological explanation isn't wrong exactly.

DMT is produced endogenously in mammals, possibly in the pineal gland, and floods the brain during birth, extreme stress, and death. It binds to serotonin receptors and triggers massive cortical activity. All of that is measurable.

But quantum theorists like Hameroff and Penrose have suggested consciousness may not be produced by the brain at all. It may be *received* by it, the way a radio receives a signal.

If that's true, DMT might not be generating hallucinations. It might be temporarily retuning the receiver to frequencies we normally can't access.

Strassman himself, a trained materialist psychiatrist, eventually admitted he could no longer rule out that his subjects were contacting something genuinely external. He called it the most difficult intellectual concession of his career.

The doorway may not have been a metaphor.
