"Trying to make a difference, that's how I find my joy." Lydia and Joy fled a mass kidnapping of schoolgirls in Nigeria—and got their master's degrees in Florida. They told me about it for @OprahDaily: https://t.co/BzUhol1oVi @seuniversity@oprah@MichelleObama#BringBackOurGirls
Not my favorite reason to be on TV, but I am eager to draw out more of the others harmed by Mike Spiller in his 50 years of child molesting #gymnastics#sexualabuse https://t.co/y7lnIPzqnv
The sexual abuse Anne experienced as a child haunted her for decades. This May, she filed a report and found out she was not alone. Her abuser, gymnastics coach Mike Spiller, had assaulted another girl this April.
Police know of at least 5 victims so far.

I'm nowhere near the first. And I sure wasn't the last, even though this has never been much of a secret in my own life OR (in my opinion) in the TX gymnastics community.
How many times do how many kids have to tell in order to stop an abuser?
In 1983, Anne Whitney was 10 when she was sexually abused by a gymnastics coach at her Houston gym.
This month, the coach, Mike Spiller, was arrested. He abused another child this spring in Boerne, TX.

Truth-telling can take a loooong time, but it's NEVER too late. This is a repost of @danielle_lerner's story exposing Mike Spiller, who sexually abused children from the 1970s, to me in 1983, to 2022.

Remember last summer when the Olympic gymnasts held a press conference & were like, “the FBI didn’t just ignore the sexual abuse, they intentionally altered our statements and reports to cover it up.”
Who are those FBI agents and why are they not in jail?!
A Justice Department inspector general report found gross failures on the part of the FBI to properly investigate complaints from gymnasts, who told the bureau in 2015 about the abuse.
And Merrick Garland this last summer REFUSED to prosecute the FBI agents who botched the case
