@1adass In Norfolk the respite unit for with the most profound and complex needs has temporarily closed so the staff can do more ‘important covid roles’ making unpaid family carers feel worthless.
@JamesBullion@1adass Family carers are not considered, my daughters NHS respite unit has just been closed down temporarily while the nursing staff have been diverted to the front line vaccination centres and hospital wards. Respite cancelled and no other support available over Christmas.
I sincerely hope that the conversation around Learning Disability has begun to change attitudes & helped professionals to think differently about the people in front of them that they are treating. To think outside the box and go the extra mile. They are depending on you 🙏💙
@JudithinNorfolk The first places to come out of lockdown are schools but school staff are the last people to be vaccinated. Asking for trouble if you ask me!
@NickTay61782758 @NorfolkLabourCC If it had been properly distributed to the families and carers of people with disabilities it would have increased the opposition to it to the high 90’s percentage instead of from what I can remember the low 90’s, even more people to ignore!
@sandrajsquire@NorfolkLabourCC Deadline only extended by 17 hours and most of them while people are asleep. Hollow victory if you ask me. How are we supposed to read, digest and comment on such a lengthy document in just a few hours?
@JamesBullion@1adass Unpaid family carers need to be classed as health and social care workers and vaccinated. You could not manage without us and we are not even on priority list.
@JamesBullion@1adass When family carers reach pension age themselves the Carers Allowance stops altogether and they then get no financial reward for often 24/7 care for their loved ones. Who else would work for nothing?
ADASS President @JamesBullion sets out what working age disabled people, older people, families and carers need from the upcoming Spending Review - Investing in adult social care will reap dividends. @lgcplus https://t.co/CO57P5OWXA
Social services directors @1adass call for £1.2bn emergency scheme to give most pressed family carers (50 hrs/wk +) £50 weekly for 20 weeks to pay for respite breaks through winter #NCASC20#carers
