Took some time out to read this today. A brilliant and timeless sociological reminder about sociology. Howie Becker, reflecting on a class taught by Everett Hughes (in What About Mozart? What About Murder?: Reasoning From Cases).
So excited to see this & proud to have my work included among such splendid contributions!
When I started my PhD in 2015 there was little qual work in mainstream PA & well-meaning colleagues warned me about pursuing this path if I wanted to "make it" - look where we are now!
Looking forward to reading this (but will never stop being baffled that it needs to be said when there is so much insightful and innovative interpretive research out there! I also think that this much needed expansion of approaches in PA is actually already well on its way...)
Opening the “black box” of public administration: The need for interpretive research by María Verónica Elías focuses on a central but relatively neglected issue, the field’s approach to knowledge acquisition, which has grown unproductively... (1/n) https://t.co/gyFiM6JpAQ
Thrilled by this honor. Congratulations to finalists & the decade winner & thanks to the editors. I learned a lot reading the literature & working with my coauthor & hope it stimulates research on antecedents, function & implications of bureaucratic structures, practices & values
