If $9,000 is the thing that is going to let moms stay home and for families to have more children, then make it a $9,000 tax credit.
If you want them to have $9,000, then government shouldn’t take the $9000 from them to start with. Giving back the money they took like it’s a favor when they could just let them keep it. Even worse, government shouldn’t have to take $15,000 from someone else while keeping $6,000 for itself snd then “give” the $9,000 it stole from someone else.
Reduce taxes. Don’t increase spending.

Few people understand the improbability of Lindsay Clancy having psychosis at 8 months postpartum and that leading to her killing her children, so let me quantify using the available data:
1. Incidence of postpartum psychosis: ~0.15%
2. Homicide in untreated first-episode psychosis: ~0.16%
3. Postpartum disease peaks between 10-19 days.
4. The data on incidence of postpartum psychosis cited above stops at 3 months because most literature agrees that beyond that it asymptotically approaches 0.

Conditional probability that she had PPP and killed her children from it = 0.0000024 or 1/416,667. BUT that’s at 3 months. At 8 months? I’ll go on a limb and say probably 0.

However, people try to suggest that because Remeron has the very rare side effect of psychosis so it must’ve been drug-induced. Ok, she was also on Seroquel which is an antipsychotic. I guess that simpleton argument is neutralized.

Because anything is possible, you have to analyze the incident in real time. When you do, you realize it’s absolutely silly to suggest that she hopped into psychosis for 18 minutes, murdered her children, then just hopped right back out without intervention.

I’m open to the idea of giving married stay at home families 9k a year to incentivize parents spending more time with their kids.

The entire purpose of requiring unanimity is that the twelfth juror is allowed to say:

And refuse to move.

Let's get real about the Lindsay Clancy case.

People, mostly women, are mischaracterizing the question the Jury is trying to decide. The question is not, did she have a psychotic break. That's immaterial.

The real question before the Jury is, when she murdered her children, did she know that it was wrong?

To me, there is no doubt that she did know what she was doing was wrong. One hundred percent.

How do I know? It's actually simple if you focus on the real events.

As she was murdering her children, her husband called. He asked her how things were going. She said that everything was OK, and the children were fine.

Think about that. If she actually didn't know that murdering her children was wrong, then her answer to her husband's question would have been, "Oh, I'm strangling the children because the voice told me to do it. Could you pick up a quart of milk on your way home?"

The fact, and it is a fact, that she lied about it was because she knew what she was doing was wrong.

In my opinion, the woman is a sociopath in the way Scott Peterson was. She was just tired of being the perfect mom when in truth that was the last thing she wanted to be. She was tired of living, and as with many suicidal people, she wanted to kill the ones she blamed for driving her to suicide.

If it is true that there's only one holdout from accepting the insanity defense, then I pray to God that he, and I'm sure it's a he, does not get intimidated into letting a murderess walk.

I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) at 21 years old. After I gave birth in my 30’s, I had the same thoughts people are using to excuse Lindsay Clancy. I saw myself throwing my son down the basement stairs. I saw myself throwing him from a moving car. I heard voices. I tried to kill myself twice.

I told my husband. I made the choice and refused to be left alone with my son until I was stable. I did not have her doctors or her money. I still knew what I was thinking. I still CHOSE not to do it.

Those thoughts do not appear, get obeyed, and then vanish. That is a cop-out. I took all the medications they keep trying to excuse her with. I was not well. I was still responsible. I CHOSE to ensure my son was safe until I was ok again.

You will never convince me otherwise, She killed those children.

IF a voice was there, she made the CHOICE to listen. That is not illness doing the killing. That is a decision.

And now the jury is deadlocked. Nine women and three men. They were not sequestered. They were just told “don’t look at the news” and sent home. Several showed up in pink, the same color her supporters wear outside court. That is flat out unacceptable.

Three babies were strangled. This should not be a club. She deserves the full weight of the law.

Were it up to me, that would be public execution.
