Edward Joseph Watson, 60, of Waterbury CT, is charged with identity theft, theft by swindle, and forgery.

Charges say On June 3, Osseo police responded to a forgery report at a bank in their city.

The reporting parties were bank employees who stated that a male was attempting to withdraw $8,500 from another person's home equity account, but he is not the account holder.

The male presented a US Government Army ID Card however the last letter of the account holder's last name was "z" and the identification card had the last letter as "s." Employees became suspicious and within five minutes of the interaction confirmed the male was not the account holder and then called police.

Bank employees advised officers that they learned the suspect had attempted to do the exact transaction that same day at their Andover branch, but left before police arrived.

Watson refused to identify himself to police, but was ID'd through scars and tattoos noted on a New Jersey warrant.

Officers contacted the victim and learned that he was the victim of a recent identity theft. The victim had been receiving 6-7 fraud alerts per day from his financial institutions and had not given anyone his identification or authorization to withdraw money from his account.

Investigation found the victim's social security number connected to Watson.

During his arrest, Watson began to go into drug withdrawal and was briefly hospitalized.

He remains in custody on $20,000 bail.
