@gauravsabnis I have a list for Pakistan & Iran. Two countries I don’t have any hope of visiting in my lifetime. For Pak it is- Bun Kebab in Karachi. Nihari, Paye and Taka-tak in Lahore. Chapli kebab, Namkeen Ghost and Shinwari Karahi in Peshawar. Halwa-Puri and Anda Channay in Rawalpindi.
@gauravsabnis My worst fear when driving into the city. Cyclist can become invisible by blending into the background crowds & make no noise. So easy for something catastrophic to happen. It’s also my big concern with Tesla FSD which operates without LIDAR & just camera feeds.
@gauravsabnis We tried explain to them, nicely, that calling out the genocide is Gaza doesn’t quite to anti-semitism. By doing that, the Jewish folks are diluting their own cause and our collective fight against anti-semitism. Don’t think it helped.
@gauravsabnis Our town Facebook group was abuzz with complaints of anti-semitism by town folk who went for the Ed Sheeran concerts in MetLife. Apparently what Macklemore said and his symbolism was very ‘scary’ to them and ‘traumatizing’ to their kids.
@PATHTrain@gauravsabnis The TAPP system has an even bigger display than the old system! It makes no sense to use that massive screen to just say “GO” in size 25 font rather than actually display meaningful information that is already present at time of the tap.
@gauravsabnis So many nuances I learned after moving here. One thing that still irks me is if you buy a can of ThumsUp in the US, the ingredients printed on the can is overlayed with a printed label. Why? Ingredients are the same. Why does it need to be differently labeled for intl vs Ind?
@gauravsabnis Woaaah. That sauce and thecha can go on literally everything! I absolutely love anything Scotch Bonnet. Maybe I can try growing some at home. Going to look for seeds now!
Every year on or right before 9/11, we show this video to our students. It’s not only powerful story-telling, it’s a reminder to a younger generation about how life altering 9/11 was for those of us who lived it. It’s only 10 min #themanintheredbandana
@gauravsabnis Every 9/11 at 8:46AM since I came to NYC I take a min to try and think about the countless lives that changed in that instant. I call it the ‘Before Times’. In a lot of ways it was the death of the innocence of the 90s. Nothing was the same in the world anymore.
@gauravsabnis Btw the time I came to NYC the memorial pools were already open. My workplace was at 4 WFC and I used to walk past Ground Zero every single day. It was still a horrifying scene in my head, imagining the scale of two towers piled up in a heap where the two massive pools now are.
@gauravsabnis When I came to NYC for my Masters in 2013, I used to live in Morningside Heights. There was a halal cart on 120th & B’way. $5 for beans over rice. The Turkish guy running it saw a broke kid far from home & started charging me $4, sometimes sneaking in chicken too. Never forgot it
