When somebody purchased a vehicle and has a trade-in, the GST is calculated on the net difference, not the total selling price

Essentially, the only tax assessed on it is the dealers margin

Remove GST on used cars, you must also remove it from the trade‑in credit when you buy new, meaning GST gets charged on the full purchase price instead.

@mferreriptbokaw The savings under proposed Bill C-285 would not be 13% of the purchase price. It would only be 5%. The Bill only proposes to eliminate GST, not PST or the provincial portion of HST.
