Today, the Thematic Committee on Climate Change visited local farmers in the South East Lowveld to explore an innovative solution to human-wildlife conflict. Through the cultivation and distribution of chillies, these farmers are pioneering a natural deterrent against elephant encroachment. By utilizing the chillies to create smoke blocks, the community can safely and effectively scare away elephants, significantly reducing the risk of crop damage and promoting harmonious coexistence with wildlife. This sustainable approach not only addresses the pressing issue of human-wildlife conflict but also showcases the resilience and resourcefulness of local farmers in the face of climate change.
