The FBI is offering up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Minnesota Somali fraud suspect Said Abdullahi Ereg.

Ereg is wanted for his alleged role in a massive fraud scheme that stole millions from the federal child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds meant to feed children in need were instead misappropriated and laundered.

Investigators allege Ereg used most of the money to support his family's lavish lifestyle, like other Somalis who have been charged. The arrest warrant for Said Abdullahi Ereg was issued on January 24, 2024, but prosecutors believe he has already fled the U.S.

Somalis claim to be refugees to get settled in the U.S., but they often travel back to Africa and, more recently, have been fleeing there to escape prosecution.

Another family cries for help: Marine veteran Michael Shomate ruptured a brain aneurysm and suffered cardiac arrest on May 26, and was declared brain dead less than 24 hours later.

(Even the American Academy of Neurology’s brain death guideline says you must wait at least 24 hours after injury to declare brain death.)

According to his wife, he is now being denied treatment even though he still has vital signs:

“My husband was in full recovery mode after the aneurism and three cardiac arrests with his body returning to normal levels. Now they are just letting him sit there with no treatment because they said you can't treat a dead body.”

Dead people don’t have vital signs — Michael Shomate is critically ill, but he is not dead.

They confiscated it during a cell transfer after he had it for weeks in solitary. He’s now stuck with a broken tablet that crashes constantly and makes a PDF Bible unusable. He’s filed 8 grievances. He’s offered to pay for a replacement. He’s been polite the entire time while studying Scripture daily.

Her response? All-caps: “YOU HAVE A TABLET. STOP ASKING.”

Meanwhile, the inmate next door gets a physical Torah.

This is blatant religious discrimination, a clear violation of the First Amendment, RLUIPA, and basic constitutional rights. Pre-trial detainees do NOT lose their right to practice their faith.

Captain Jessica Oakes has the authority to fix this immediately. She chooses not to.
