The team demonstrated a clear commitment towards partnership working with all stakeholders and placed Service users, patients, families, and carers are at the very centre to shape the service.” #RCPsychAwards
@ShaunLintern Most professionals would welcome the MHA changes but don't believe it would make much difference. Consequence would be individuals with an LD still sat on inpatient wards for long periods of time but without the legal remedies and oversight of the MHA.
@ShaunLintern 50-70% of inpatients with an LD don't need hospital care. The problem doesn't usually sit with the hospital but lack of investment in social care and adequate housing. Hospital ends up being a place of safety due to placement breakdown rather than for treatment.
News. People with a learning disability from ethnic minority backgrounds die at an average age of just 34, compared to an average age of 62 for white people with learning disabilities.
