It was great that Bordeaux and the CFB community forced EA to remove paywalled content that was free last year, however it transpires that EA didn't reinstate the content, they just removed it in a "if you wont pay for it you just wont get it at all then" move.
I think this speaks volumes to the reality of a community ACTUALLY being able to force change, because although the removal of the MTX here is good, the fact that EA didn't get their way with it means they just removed the content all together.
A lot of FC creators and community members pushed a LOT of shit towards other creators for not doing enough "when we had the chance" - and used this instance as a battering ram back up that narrative, but the reality is (and always was) - that EA will do what EA want, and there's nothing we can do about it.
I really thought the CFB community had broken new grounds with EA in this regard, but EA's greed knows no bounds. Sad.
👇This is what happened to Sports games #CFBPlayDontPay
Imagine you buy a highly realistic flight simulator because you absolutely love airplanes.
✅The Old Way: You sit in the cockpit. You have total control over the aircraft. The challenge comes from the weather, the physics, and your actual skill as a pilot. It feels like real flying. (-> Immersion. That was the goal.)
❌The New Way: You sit in the cockpit, but the controls are completely locked. A digital screen flashes: "You are a Level 1 Pilot. You must fly in a straight line for 40 hours to earn enough 'Aviation Points' to unlock the ability to turn left." (-> Gamification. This is the plan.)

EA seems to not be concerned with building a realistic sandbox simulation of a sport; their primary concern is building a digital cage designed to restrict the player….
And eventually extract $$$ the easy way instead of providing value to their unique audience.
This fight started long ago. As many have noted… @SimGamingNetwrk@softdrinktv
imagine being 8 years old and loading up College Football 27 to play out a career in Road to Glory
you put in on Freshman difficulty, because you are EIGHT, and you are punished with less XP gains than people who play on Heisman
Now you hate College Football games for the rest of your life because it’s not as fun. You don’t get into them. I don’t get why everything is becoming restricted #CFBPlayDontPay
