In 1888, a wooden hotel opened on a bluff above the Bow River in the Canadian Rockies. It was the dream of railway baron William Cornelius Van Horne .. who famously said, "since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
But legend has it that on opening day, something went wrong. Somewhere inside the new hotel, a room was sealed off by mistake. And it was never opened again.

One of the greatest transitions in movie history almost looked completely different.
David Lean originally planned a slow dissolve. Editor Anne V. Coates suggested a hard cut instead — turning a blown-out match into the endless desert in one unforgettable moment.
Sometimes cinematic genius is just one edit away.
Leta Powell Drake was a Nebraskan celebrity interviewer who more often than not left her subjects staring wide-eyed in disbelief at what the hell she’d just said.

The intense gaze in 'Madame Canals,' (1905) is the most remarkable feature of Picasso’s markedly classical portrait; a composition inspired by traditional Spanish portraits and evokes the typology of figures in Picasso’s previous works, characterised by their slenderness.
The ATC scene in Close Encounters (1977) fascinates me. As the tension rises, more bodies crowd the frame: tighter compositions, overlapping bursts of chatter. We can’t make out the words, yet we feel the fear and confusion. It’s raw; no music, just voices and mounting panic.

The climax challenges the audience from two directions. If you believe only in science, it asks you to accept the unprovable. If you believe only in faith, it demands evidence. The film becomes a meditation asking: What if the most important truths can never be proven?
