My youngest daughter just turned five, as I shared in a previous post. She has daily devotions and I’ve added a Bible class to home homeschool routine.

The other day, just to see what she could understand, I started asking her about Jesus. I asked her about why we all need Him. I asked her about being saved and what it meant. I asked her about why Jesus died for us and about how He rose again on the third day. She answered every one of these questions Biblically, albeit in a very basic way.

But, isn’t that something? A child understanding the plain truths of scripture, without manipulating it or complicating it… without warping it and wringing it out to extract the preferred verses.

The simplicity of the Gospel is indeed a stumbling block for many.

I think of many things in this moment, specifically of the lessons we can all learn from a child. It’s no wonder Jesus said the following:

“Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
(Matt. 18:3-4)

Faith, sincerity, humility, trust.

Yes, may we all strive to be as little children.
