The Unbeaten Mindset: Floyd Mayweather
Imagine a boxer. He fought 50 professional fights in his career and lost absolutely none. Everyone thought he just had an incredible, innate talent.
But the flip side of the coin was very different. He grew up in deep poverty, finding dru*g needles in his bedroom.
The boxing gym was his only sanctuary.
One day, a reporter asked him the secret to his success. His answer became the ultimate motto for those who never quit:
"When you were sleeping, I was working. When you were partying, I was working. When you gave up, I was still working."
Talent only gets you through the door. What keeps you in that room is the ruthless discipline you show when nobody is watching.
And he said: "I don't show respect to anybody who doesn't work as hard as me. If you want to be the best, you have to outwork everyone. There are no days off."
Be boring. Live your life your way. Go to bed at 9. Wake up at 5. Eat simple foods. Go for 2 hour walks. Read 900 page books. Avoid drama. The world chases excitement. More noise. More excitement. But you chase real. Things that align with your soul. A calm routine. A quiet mind. A healthy body. A small circle. A private life. Shit that make you feel like you. Depth over noise. Always...
I asked Dan Hurley the same question I asked Tom Izzo: why does the media have a problem with coaches coaching players hard?
Hurley: "Society has gotten soft in a lot of ways... The real world is tough and cruel... I'm preparing my players for life."
