@MrDanielBuck Here’s the powerhouse paper that debunks discovery learning. They don’t assign this in ed school for obvious reasons. https://t.co/X3kz5SaNA1
There’s this trendy belief in education that children are better off “discovering” information (see: floundering and failing) rather than being taught directly from a skilled teacher.
A self-evidently idiotic idea and yet widely promulgated.
Just finished reading Hattie’s latest feedback study (it’s obviously v.interesting). V excited to be interviewing him tomorrow. If there is one question you could ask him about feedback/any of his studies…what would it be?
We released ‘Writing development: what does a decade of NAPLAN data reveal?’, the most extensive analysis of students’ writing conducted in Australia. Findings are concerning, and AERO is committed to supporting and improving student achievement. https://t.co/KtvcxdH3Nc

@DannyRichman I think this is terrific and will be a temporary solution for this young man but all too often in schools this is what we offer our older students; crutches to support their illiteracy.
It is finally here!!! Our amazing collaboration with @WALKTHRUs_5@teacherhead. This series of films have been designed to support teacher development & instructional coaching. We are so pleased to be able share this video with you all. https://t.co/JglSs2qjw3. #CLTWalkThrus#RT

Why does "#schema theory" matter?
@overpractised writes: "Schemas house our prior knowledge of a topic...
The quality of our schemas ... plays a huge role in what we attend to and learn in a given situation."

@TCRWP Would the signers explain if phonics is so essential why defend a commercial product that omitted it for 20 years and then be upset that anyone would denounce that omission — so screwing kids out of an essential is unifying but denouncing that omission is divisive?
Proud of my partner Natasha who is a Teacher Librarian, which worked collaboratively with @ALIANational to write the following article https://t.co/aQ60kcx1t5 titled ‘School Libraries Support the Sustainable development Goals’.
These are the NAPLAN numbers 2022. If people don’t think we have a reading crisis in Australia they need to take a look at these. We cannot normalise having children below NMS.
“You all now know that there is something in our schools that’s doing harm to our children, so what are you going to do about it?” … “Fountas and Pinnell? Lucy Calkins? Reading Recovery and Levelled Literacy Instruction? Get them out of your schools!”
Congratulations @EminaMcLean and @NathanielRSwain for making this list of extraordinary people! https://t.co/sdxXHTip4f Wonderful to see your work recognised here

One of the most pointless behaviour tips you can give: 'build a relationship with your class.' Not because it's not true, but because it tells a trainee nothing about what to *do*. Often they vanish down a rabbit hole of trying to amuse or please the class. Chaos ensues
The irony that 1/2 of @FountasPinnell sits on the board of @rrcna_org directors. When RR doesn’t work, districts are just encouraged to buy LLI and keep on plugging away at teaching kids to guess. https://t.co/m8r8YVCxnO
