#SimplyAshustMaadi makes implementation challenging for a #BetterBengaluru
A difficult morning again on the #SH35 school corridor.
35 of our 61 school bus routes arrived late today, averaging 7.2 minutes behind schedule, our worst morning in over a week. R17, from Prestige Shantiniketan (yes also in Whitefield) was 42 minutes late.
Today's delays appear to be a combination of factors: Gunjur Club Road is closed, diverting more traffic onto the already strained Dommasandra–Gunjur–Varthur–Whitefield stretch; waterlogging is adding to the problem; and we are once again seeing heavy vehicles on the Varthur–Gunjur stretch.
@wftrps has formally acknowledged the disruption and deployed additional personnel at key junctions, thank you for responding quickly.
But today is also a reminder of a pattern. Heavy vehicles weren't meant to be back on this stretch at all. Enforcement must be consistent, and the agencies responsible for enforcing the rules must also be held accountable. None of this happens by accident — "simply adjust maadi" has become a way of life, and when people are frustrated by a free-for-all, they will look for and exploit every loophole!
The last two weeks have shown us what is possible when relatively simple traffic-management measures, including restricting heavy vehicles during school hours, are consistently enforced. Most mornings, we had fewer than 20 late routes.
The real test now is consistency.
This corridor carries thousands of children to school every morning. We need to ensure that the measures that work are institutionalised and enforced every day, alongside the longer-term road and infrastructure fixes this corridor urgently needs.
We'll continue sharing our 61-route GPS data and what we see on the ground, so we can collectively understand what works, and sustain it.

@noorainee A delayed route means kids lose play, family time, and rest, while commuters lose hours in idling engines.
Data shows the same 2 km stretch breaks down every single rain. Real infrastructure resilience starts when we act on predictable bottlenecks, not treat them as surprises.
Update 30 Sept 2026
Today’s #SH35 numbers show why we track every single day & not just the good ones.
Morning traffic held steady, with 43 of 61 routes arriving on time or early as the corridor recovered from a rain-hit Tuesday.
Evening traffic was a different story. Rain and congestion pushed 24 of 61 routes late, a significant step back from just six the day before. R9, serving Doddanekkundi, and R35, serving Seshadripuram, were the worst hit—79 and 73 minutes late respectively.
After school, our dedicated leadership team and staff—who absolutely love being on our beautiful campus—didn’t get so lucky. Those who left at 4:20 p.m. and live just 11–12 km away were still only just reaching home (more than 2 hrs later). One colleague had not even reached Marathahalli yet!
Here’s a visual from #Varthur.
(Despite water logging, people are riding on the wrong side of the road!). We have to help ourselves first by following rules, folks!
Ever entrepreneurial, our Inventurers were using the time on the bus to imagine vehicles that could be adapted to travel along roads—or even on water! Any takers?
This is exactly why we track every route, every day. Enforcement works when it holds, whatever the weather. We’ll keep sharing what the data shows

Today, Bengaluru’s SH-35 corridor—Varthur–Gunjur–Dommasandra—received the site visit it has needed for months, if not decades.
@krishnabgowda , Minister for Bengaluru Development, experienced the #SH35 corridor firsthand: its mobility challenges, traffic black spots, the impact of years of neglect by elected representatives, and the lack of coordination across government agencies. He demonstrated a strong understanding of the challenges on the ground - err something I especially appreciated as a school head, given the homework he had done :)
We joined him at Dommasandra & Gunjur, sharing our analysis based on lived experience and data from 61 GPS-tracked school bus routes: where delays occur, why they happen, and what each location needs to improve traffic flow and safety.
We handed over our full report on the ground - not simply that “traffic is bad,” but precisely which junction or stretch is affected, the causes of the problem, and the impact of fixes implemented over the past few days.
The Minister continued further down the corridor towards #Varthur , with a clear promise: “We will get things moving.”
This corridor carries nearly 40,000 children to school every day. A Minister choosing to stand on the road rather than discuss it in the comfort of a meeting room, is exactly the kind of engagement& governance we have been asking for.
A heartfelt thank you to our school parents & team members who have been working tirelessly to help find solutions & who joined us for the visit.
Thank you, Shri Krishna Byre Gowda, for making the time & listening. Thank you also to the @GBA_office, @blrcitytraffic & media who walked the stretch with us & are working hard to improve the situation
The data shows that the enforcement already in place is working. Now, let’s build on it, coordinate across agencies & make these improvements last!
Thank you also to the Inventure community @InventureK12 for being part of the solution. It is easy to be sceptical, play the victim, or complain… it is far more fulfilling to help create change.

@noorainee Incredible to see multi-agency collaboration on the ground! Having leadership walk the corridor firsthand makes all the difference. Looking forward to seeing these agreed immediate measures roll out on SH-35 and supporting the long-term progress.
Grateful for a morning on SH-35 with GBA Commissioner Sri M. Maheshwar Rao; Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru City, Sri Karthik Reddy; Sri Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru East; Sri RK Misra; B.CLIP leader Sri Ramesh; senior government and police officials; local civic leaders; media representatives; and my colleagues from Inventure Academy.
We had a purposeful visit to Hope Farm Junction and walked through Varthur Kodi, Varthur Police Station and Gunjur, examining the roads, bylanes, drains and sidewalks used daily by our children and thousands of residents.
Immediate traffic-flow measures were agreed on the spot, while longer-term solutions to the Whitefield–Sarjapur area’s urgent mobility needs were discussed, with broad consensus on the way ahead. #SH35
This is what good governance looks like: stakeholders working together, identifying problems, understanding different perspectives, agreeing on solutions and following through.
I look forward to the minutes and regular updates. Commitments must translate into completed work, with progress tracked and accountability maintained.
We are all #changemakers and we must all be part of the solution

10km ride, nearly 2 hours on the road every day for schoolkids in Bengaluru https://t.co/N2psqBERrO via @timesofindia
When lived experience is backed by credible data, it becomes harder to ignore - and easier to solve
We sincerely thank the Govt of Karnataka, Bengaluru Traffic Police and civic leaders for listening and for the steps taken so far on the Varthur-Gunjur & Domassandra stretch on SH35 - including restricting heavy vehicles during school hours and strengthening traffic management. These interventions have already shown that improvement is possible when stakeholders work together
The next step is to sustain what works: repair damaged roads, address critical bottlenecks, complete pending infrastructure, and use data and technology to plan traffic flows more intelligently
This is not about assigning blame. It is about bringing schools, government, police, workplaces and communities together around a shared goal: safer, healthier and more time-efficient commutes for our children / citizens
Thank you to The Times of India for highlighting the issue and the possible solutions.

Nearly 5,000 residents have signed a petition seeking urgent repairs.
This isn't one bottleneck. It's a corridor-wide mobility challenge affecting thousands of daily journeys, including children.
Full findings for those working in urban planning, mobility and infrastructure.
Traffic on a busy Bengaluru corridor is up 22% in just two years.
One stretch saw a 106% increase in commute time in a single year.
We spent days mapping it, real school-bus journeys, timed routes, and testimony from those experiencing the commute firsthand.
And it's not just time lost, it's the road itself.
No tarmac. No lane markings. Potholes that remain waterlogged for days.
Buses are sometimes rerouted onto unpaved roads simply to avoid the worst of the congestion.
