on his Birth Anniversary today.
Capt Vinayak was born this day in 1968 in Mumbai. The only son to his parents, he was an excellent sportsman, a keen footballer, who had participated in many inter college tournaments. He was fondly known as Maradona by his friends. Greatly inspired by the lives of Shivaji Maharaj and Veer Savarkar, he chose to leave his Chartered Accountancy course mid way and attempt the CDS exams. Clearing that, he joined the IMA and was later commissioned into 31 Med Regiment on 12Jun 91.
On 26th Sep 1995, while his Unit was deployed in Kupwara, there was unprovoked firing by the enemies at the border post. Capt Vinayak's post was fired upon heavily. He and his men too put up a brave fight. But one of the missiles fired by the enemies, hit him directly and he made the Supreme sacrifice.
He was just 27 and had served for only 3 1/2 years.

As #OceanGate #Submersible heading towards #Titanic is lost, let's take a moment to Salute and remember our Submariners and understand about their Lives inside Submarines.

Even hardcore sailors think ‘they’ are crazy, but they do so with great regard to the submariners.

Any man with the Dolphin badge deserves all the respect and some more, for they are the submariners; men who volunteer to lock themselves up in a windowless, cramped, steel contraption of a vessel to work tirelessly for one and a half months at a time with 250 ft of sea above them.

When they enter the submarine and the hatch closes above them they know fully well that there are no exit doors for them in the event of danger. Yet, they step down the ladder bravely with their heads held high.

The entry inside a submarine is through a conning tower where a cylindrical staircase drops 10ft down into abyss. Once inside, there goes the modern engineering Marvel called #submarine.

The heart thumps and the lungs expand, greedy for oxygen. One cannot help but look up at the hatch — the last source of sunlight. Once everybody climbs down, the door at the conning tower is sealed and secured. Now, you feel like you are inside a fully packed tube.

If you are claustrophobic it is at this point that you are willing to meet your Creator.

Surrounded by water, the most precious commodity inside the submarine is water, used only for drinking and cooking. The crews use disposable, medicated clothing.

Space inside the submarine gives the phrase packed-like-sardines-in-a-tin a new meaning. Filled with gadgets, valves, gauges and other instruments there’s hardly any space for the crew.

In some areas you cannot even walk straight as you collide head on with the heavy equipment.

The crew is exposed to chemical gases for several weeks. Lack of sleep and intense work & no sunlight affects their health.

Though submariners are provided with berths or racks to sleep, many often sleep where they work. Everyone onboard submarines cleans toilets without any hesitation.

A submariner goes to work the minute he steps inside one, every day is a work day, till he reaches port. Men lose count of their body clock spending long periods in closed quarters with no fresh air or sunlight; being away from family and friends; following a work-life routine very different from the regular also suffer loss of appetite.

Submariners are basically astronauts of the deep.

These exceptional super soldiers function and strike at the enemy target at a pace, which is faster than that of a second needle of the clock.

Sitting inside a menacing contraption, deep under the sea, fully aware of the dangers lurking in the waters, submariners are the bravest men of our country, safeguarding our nation from seaborne threats.

In 1992, a Japanese filmmaker named Yugo Sako created an animated film called Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama.

The movie was made in Hindi and English and had many famous actors (for voice) like Arun Govil, Amrish Puri, and Namrata Sawhney.

However, the movie was not released in India for over three years because of religious tensions at the time in the country.
Eventually, the Hindi version was shown on Doordarshan in 1995 less than a year before 1996 elections.
